PayPal’s Business in a Box is a program designed to help your small business thrive. When you sign up, you’re given what you need to start selling your products, taking online payments, and managing your finances.

Under most circumstances, you’d spend a lot of time picking out and purchasing the individual components you need to set up an online store. This can be a huge barrier to small business owners who are ready to get started and bring in revenue.

Business in a Box eliminates those steps and saves you time by packaging everything you need into one place. In one fell swoop you’re given the ability to take payments, manage your finances, host your store reliably, and (of course!) sell with WooCommerce.

    You guys mentioned that managed WooCommerce will be available on WordPress.com later this year. Are you guys still doing that or is this initiative going to replace the plan?

      Howdy Mark! Great question. Business in a Box is a PayPal program that we’ve partnered with them to get up and running. The site created through it is still self-hosted (on Pressable). So it’s a separate initiative, just makes the setup process a little faster/easier (and offers a few cool perks).

      We’re still working to create a version of WooCommerce on .com and hope to have some updates very soon. 🙂

    Great idea for starting out!

    The only fair warning would be the PayPal part. After having used them exclusively, and then in tandem with first Braintree (before it became PayPal), now Stripe, for over a decade, we’d not recommend them to anyone.

    Why? For the second time, we have been completely shorted by their so called ‘resolution’ system. The first instance, where we got the product back (luckily), PayPal ruled against the local Fair Trading laws, in a local transaction; they in effect ignore any and all local laws when apparently deciding to side with a customer, regardless of the evidence given to them. The second and most recent instance, despite presented evidence to the contrary, they again sided with the customer. This time we lost money and our merchandise (it has yet to be returned). This second time, payPal did not consult with us, or ask us for any additional information to back our case, they simply ruled in favour of the customer based on one email.

    Keep in mind, our account has been operating since 2004 where we have transacted tens of thousands of dollars; and we have only had two resolution cases. PayPal is not, and seemingly does not care about their client’s long term trading reputation. When deciding a case.

    We have turned off PayPal as a payment option and will never turn it back on. Stripe is far more professional, simpler AND cheaper per transaction. No brainer for us.

    As a a peer to peer transaction system, PP is great. I will also happily use it on websites that offer it as the only way to pay with card. From a trading business point of view, using them is bad for business.
