[wooslider slideshow_speed=”5.0″ control_nav=”false” slide_page=”wooslider-2-post” slider_type=”slides”]

Just over 1 year and 1 month ago, today, we presented WooSlider to the world. Bundled with out of the box slideshows for your commonly displayed content (posts and attached images) as well as custom slides, the possibilities with WooSlider know no limits.

Today, WooSlider grows up even more. We’re excited and very proud to present to you all, WooSlider version 2.0!

The Teenage Years

Now a few years older, WooSlider includes a few key new features, to provide additional slideshow possibilities, as well as to respond to certain features heavily requested by you all, our WooThemes community.

Quicker slide loading for everyone

We all know how quick teenagers can be. In their infancy, while still becoming comfortable with the “left, right, left” of movement, they can be relatively quick, yet not always up to full speed. As they grow older, teenagers learn the art of being swift and speedy.

Using an innovative JavaScript technique, WooSlider slideshows now load with a dramatic speed difference, enabling them to scale up to a large number of high resolution images without batting an eyelid.

One of the many perks of becoming a teenager.

Riding the carousel

It’s now possible to display your content in neatly formed carousels. Use the “slides” slideshow type, add your content, check the “this slideshow is a carousel” checkbox and you’re done.

In addition, slideshows can now set their thumbnail pagination to be a carousel. Using a carousel for pagination, coupled with your wonderful content above it in a standard “slide” or “fade”, makes for a very attractive presentation.

Advanced video controls

When your visitor is viewing a video in your slideshow, they should be able to control when they wish to pause the video, and when they wish to move to the next slide.

WooSlider 2.0 now supports YouTube, Vimeo and Wistia videos, embedded directly into your slide content using the “slides” slideshow type. This feature also makes use of our newly-added support for FlexSlider’s “start”, “end”, “before” and “after” callbacks, all filterable via standard WordPress filters and available to developers for creating advanced slideshow interactions.

How do I get this awesome update?

WooThemes Ninja JoyWooSlider 2.0 is available, today, as a free update for everyone who has previously purchased WooSlider.

If you’re new to WooSlider, version 2.0 is available for purchase for you all today as well!

Need a hand upgrading? Not 100% sure what you’d need to do to get up and running with WooSlider 2.0? Please log a ticket with our help desk where our friendly ninjas are on hand to assist.

A new extension! Slide your Instagrams

Along with WooSlider 2.0, we wanted to remind everyone that WooSlider can slide any content passed to it. We also love Instagram and all enjoy taking photos (filtered or otherwise) and sharing them with the world.

We know you all do as well.

Showcase your Instagrams in a neat sliding or fading slideshow, in your content area, sidebar or anywhere else you desire, using WooSlider and the WooSlider Instagram extension. Once you’ve connected your Instagram account, WooSlider takes care of the rest.

Do you love using the new video feature in Instagram? That’s great, we do as well!

WooSlider Instagram, when loaded into WordPress 3.6 or higher, supports the video feature in Instagram, to neatly display your videos in your slideshow. Much like the videos above, these are also intelligently controlled to prevent the slideshow from unnecessarily moving forward while you’re trying to watch that video of your friend’s cat playing the piano, or that quick office tour at your startup’s new office space.

WooSlider Instagram is FREE for a limited time, so grab your copy today.

Looking to the future…

It goes without saying that we love WooSlider, the possibilities that arise while using it and, most importantly, we love helping everyone showcase their content in a fun and attractive way.

These three passions lead us to continually explore new avenues and opportunities within WooSlider and the content showcase field. We look forward to sharing future content showcase innovations with you all, and to connecting with you all in our WooIdeas forum to share and discuss your ideas for WooSlider extensions.

We look forward to seeing what you all build using WooSlider 2.0.

Do Wooslider support touch control? Do user from mobile device can slide the image using their finger? When are you going to update your product vendor extension??

    Thanks

WooSlider supports touch events on mobile devices, yes.

We’re currently working with the FlexSlider community to enable full touch support on Windows Phone devices as well. iOS devices should have full touch-swipe support. 🙂

Product Vendors updates are on the cards. Look out for the update, coming soon. 🙂

Just tested this out on a site and the Instagram slider widget seems to have issues with videos. They appear at least twice as tall as the photo embeds. Any chance of adding a custom width option to the advanced options or the option to not pull videos from Instagram until y’all get it sorted? Using newest version of Canvas, btw.

Thanks for your feedback, Nick. That could be a styling issue.

I’d recommend logging a ticket with our help desk where our ninjas are on hand to assist. 🙂

There isn’t currently a way to “ignore” videos, per-say. We’ll keep a note of that for future versions. 🙂

        Bloody Brilliant!

I especially like the ‘use a carousel as slider pagination’ feature.

All we need now is a WooSlider 2 compatible fullwidth slider for Canvas 😉

    Hi,

How about full screen? I know this is a much requested feature, and I would have used it several times if it was available.

    Thanks!

      Hi there. 🙂

WooSlider can do full-width slideshows. Full screen (ie: full width and full height) would be down to the content included in the slideshow.

WooSlider will size it’s width according to the width of it’s container. If the container is the “body” tag, WooSlider will go to the width of this tag.

Placing a large image, or using some CSS to create a full height solution would product a full-screen slideshow. 🙂

This feature is a big requested feature in canvas to have a container to go full screen – really looking forward to this coming to Canvas – and hopefully soon 😉

I meant Canvas! I should have made that clear. Can’t wait to see it there!

Does this means that we can use wooSlider with Canvas in full-width mode and Slideshow overrides the width of wrapper/ inner-wrapper div (960px) to go full screen (1366px in my case) ?

    Hi there,

I am a big fan of woothemes and use most of your products,

I have a feedback for your new slider Because I really want you guys to succeed.

    1) When there are options of using layered slider and powerful product slider, options of having different Divs, short codes, JQ, and JS, what is the main advantage for this slider?

    2) Majority of the sliders in the market now offer different responsive features, ability to choose the size, (full page sliders ) these are some basic requirements nowadays, does this one supports it all too ?

I suggest to have the mentioned features to add to your current slider as well as look for the things which doesn’t exists on the other ones, so you could have a unique slider

      Hi Harry,

Thanks for your feedback on this.

WooSlider’s biggest advantage is it’s lean approach. All of the above that you’ve mentioned are entirely possible with WooSlider (full width slideshows, animating elements when slides are finished animating, etc). WooSlider 2 adds even more flexibility in this.

With WooSlider, we’ve consciously chosen not to include a myriad of settings screens. Settings screens will never cover all possible use cases.

WooSlider is entirely responsive. If you place a WooSlider in a full-width container DIV tag, you’ll get a full-width slideshow. If it’s in a small DIV tag (such as a widget, for example), you’ll get a smaller slideshow. This happens out of the box.

I hope this clarifies our perspective a bit more. 🙂

Carousels make me very happy ; am I blind or did I miss that in the demo? It looks like the slideshow arrow toggles break out of the slider when browsers get resized in Chrome. Anyone else see that or is it just my browser?

Throwing my hat in for full width responsive sliders and maaaybe it would super nifty if the carousel slider could incorporate testimonials from the Woo plugin.

Thanks for the update, seems to be a reasonable one. But why dif you change the control-icons? I was pleased by the grey circles, which fitted perfectly into my screendesign. The arrows, that came with the new version are way too heavy compared to the old ones. So – how can i get the old icons back in version 2.0?

    Hey guys,

I just wanted to give you a suggestion for an “Advanced Template Feature”:

    $images_ids = array(51,32,2623);
    wooslider($image_ids);

builds the slider out of the specified image IDs. This would be very useful when interfacing custom fields with woo slider and would be very useful if you wanted to build a slide on the fly programattically.

I like this idea. Right now I have a problem with the slider. I want to pull the products and show them which is ok. However the image I want to show for the product is not the featured image.

The problem is right now there is no way of setting any image other than the featured image which may not work well for the slider.

For people who already have a built-in slider in their theme (as many WooThemes Themes already do), is it redundant to additionally buy WooSlider?

    That’s just wrong… Ha, ha!

Okay, the email I received today said the coupon code is good until September 19, 2013.
When I tried to purchase today (19th) it says it’s expired… and then I noticed on this webpage it says “Valid until Sept. 18th)…

Any chance those who got that email can still use the discount?
    Let us know!

    Thanks!

Same thing happened to me! My coupon expired before I received the email. Is there another code we can use?

      Thank a bunch!

    Hi,

Is it possible to build a slider using existing images in my wp database not using the slide builder? I’d love to be able to build it on the fly using any set of images…

    Thanks!

I can keep in mind years ago, it was a large get-together to fly on an plane. You would certainly wear a match and tie and be as professional as feasible. Now a days, you see several of the dirtiest, nastiest people, unfriendly individuals possible in the airports! And not each of them are TSA employees! Some work at the airlines! Some are on the damn plane!

    G’day!

Can I use this wooslider plugin on the superstore theme instead of the stock slider on the front page. The stock slider is massive and takes up too much real estate.

I want the slider under the menu, then the product categories underneath.

    Thanks in advance
