Level Up Your WooCommerce Skills at WooSesh 2018

September 28, 2018 - 5 Comments

Putting better eCommerce sites into the world is something that benefits all of us. Building truly remarkable sites is hard work, and we want to make it a little easier.

So, we have created an entire virtual conference called WooSesh – taking place this October 18 and 19 – to help you:

  • Improve your WooCommerce skills

  • Forge meaningful connections that will help you build better eCommerce sites

The entire event is free to attend, you just need to register and make time to participate.

If you’re wondering if WooSesh is for you, here is an exploration of the four most common approaches to learning – ad hoc, focused, practical application and group – all of which will be present over the two-day lineup, as well as what else to expect at WooSesh.

Three things we hope you take away from WooConf 2017

October 30, 2017 - 9 Comments

A little over a week ago, I traveled to Seattle along with designers and developers, freelancers and agencies from across the wide world of Woo, for WooCommerce’s annual gathering at WooConf.

For me, it was the culmination of 10 months of work that started early in January, when I came on board to plan the content. From 15 Skype calls to chat about what different people wanted from a conference to two days of talks, demos, and workshops, I hope that together we delivered on what I heard our community ask for.

Read on for three things we hope those who joined us onsite or via the live stream took away from WooConf 2017.

What WooCommerce developers can expect at WooConf 2017

August 29, 2017 - 10 Comments

Conferences have a few important features, two of them being content and people. Yes, a great venue, beautiful city, and awesome swag all add to it, but at the end of the day it needs to count to invest time and money in going somewhere.

We get this. Excellence has consistently been top priority at WooConfs over the years, and 2017 will be no different.

Our schedule puts the spotlight on the best content delivered by people you’ll be glad you got to spend time with.

Here’s what you can expect at WooConf 2017.

Why you need to pick a marketing channel

June 12, 2017 - 10 Comments

Owning a Cinnabon at the mall means you’re only competing against the cookie store that’s also in that same mall. People who like cinnamon will stop by your store, and people who like oatmeal will probably visit the cookie store. You need not do much marketing because you’re only competing against one or two stores.

It’s very different online — you’re competing against the world. There isn’t just one store that sells a competing product. There are dozens, maybe hundreds, and some have big wallets, such as Amazon and Walmart.

So if you launch your online store and neglect to do any marketing, you lose your customers to established competitors.

Read on for why you need to pick a marketing channel.

Lessons learned from releasing WooCommerce 2.4

August 26, 2015 - 19 Comments

Just over two weeks ago, we launched WooCommerce version 2.4, the Helpful Hedgehog. From our standpoint, we thought the release went well. However, while we thought this was a pretty good release, we think we can do better.

In the interest of openness, we thought we’d share some of our observations from this release. We also wanted to share what we learned as we deployed 2.4, and we’re planning to do better for the next release.

Let’s start with what went well.

WooCommerce 2.4: meet the Helpful Hedgehog

August 10, 2015 - 124 Comments

TL;DR: WooCommerce version 2.4 is here – upgrade via your WordPress dashboard. To make the process as smooth as possible, make a backup, update your extensions, view our upgrade guide and then upgrade WooCommerce.

Today, we’re marking another step in the WooCommerce journey: the release of WooCommerce 2.4, the Helpful Hedgehog.

In our last release, we focused on the front-end of WooCommerce and so named the update “Handsome Hippo.” With this update, we’re focused on making store settings more intuitive for store owners by creating a brand-new onboarding wizard, simplifying setup for standard shipping options and improving how WooCommerce handles products with many variations.

WooThemes goes to LoopConf

May 13, 2015 - 8 Comments

Did you know that the entire WooCommerce development team attended LoopConf this past week? LoopConf is a WordPress development conference held in Las Vegas, Nevada, and we had the privilege of attending the very first one.

We had an amazing time at Loop. There were great presentations, plenty of time for people to talk to us at our booth, and a fun afterparty. And of course, being in Las Vegas, the hotel was gorgeous.

Look at that view!

We decided to share a little of the behind the scenes of this release as well as some tips on how to transition your site for major point release. Enjoy!

12 Lessons I Learned at PressNomics

January 30, 2015 - 1 Comment

Last weekend I attended my very first PressNomics. If you haven’t heard of it it’s a conference all about WordPress and business put on by Pagely. It’s a nice change of pace from a WordCamp where there are a lot of talks about the technicals behind WordPress. This conference focuses on the bigger picture and ways you can improve your business no matter what you do with WordPress.

For those of you who weren’t able to go I took some notes and I’m going to share the top 12 lessons I learned at PressNomics.

Three Important Takeaways From WooCommerce Conference

November 13, 2014 - 7 Comments

One of the best pieces of advice I ever received was to spend 30 seconds after every encounter to find that one takeaway. You could be meeting someone new, attending a lecture, or organizing a conference. It isn’t about taking notes it’s about reflecting. By spending time reflecting you force yourself to prioritize information which is something we’re usually too lazy to do. And that’s what I’m doing here.

Last week we had our inaugural WooConf and since this was such a big undertaking it’s important to look back on what we accomplished so that we can make it even better next year. I’ve spent a lot of time mulling this over and came up with three important takeaways. All three are important but by far the number one reason is more important than all of the other takeaways combined.
