What’s new in WooCommerce Stripe 4.0: European payment gateways and a new credit card form

January 9, 2018 - 86 Comments

Stripe is a popular payment service provider for eCommerce stores worldwide, and we’re pleased to announce we’ve shipped a major release with a multitude of new features to enhance your experience of working with WooCommerce and Stripe.

  • Payment acceptance using European and other non-U.S. payment gateways
  • Fully PCI compliant credit card form on your checkout
  • Improved support for Apple Pay and the Web Payment Requests API
  • Simpler way to connect your WooCommerce store to Stripe

To ensure this update is stable, we’ve done a lot of testing on our side: Releasing beta versions, testing with our own library of extensions and themes, and testing with the most popular extensions used alongside WooCommerce Stripe. 👏

WooCommerce Stripe 4.0 includes lots of code improvements and should be fully backwards compatible with 3.1 and 3.0, but it’s still best to perform a backup before updating.

We recommend viewing our documentation on how to update, making a backup, and updating extensions before upgrading WooCommerce Stripe via WP Admin.

Read on for full details of what’s new in WooCommerce Stripe 4.0!

The future of Canvas

November 11, 2015 - 32 Comments

tl;dr: Canvas isn’t going anywhere, and we’re dedicating a team to growing and optimizing it.

Since launching on the 9th of February 2010, Canvas, our all-purpose theme, has been a consistent performer and gathered a large base of loyal users. The styling control panel added by Canvas has proved popular amongst users who aren’t familiar with CSS, yet desire a customized look for their website. Businesses have since been built on the back of Canvas and WordPress, due to the ease of customization afforded by it.

With our 2015 theme retirements happening recently, we retired our collection of Canvas child themes. This action sparked questions from loyal Canvas users regarding the status of Canvas and our view on the product looking forward.

Let's talk about the future of Canvas.
Let’s talk about the future of Canvas.

We’re here today to explain why these child themes were retired, and to give you a look into the future of Canvas. Keep on reading to learn more about the path this theme will take in the future.

Platform to WooCommerce Converter extensions are now free!

March 3, 2015 - 5 Comments

Choosing an eCommerce platform has, in the past, been a daunting task. We like to feel that WooCommerce makes this decision a little bit easier.

That being said, once a store is online, it can be a really cumbersome process to switch the store’s platform (especially if it’s generating regular revenue). If an online store is down for even a few hours it can result in lost revenue.

Today, we want to remove one stumbling block in the process of switching to WooCommerce by making our converter extensions scot free.

Bon Appétit, everyone!

August 7, 2014 - 11 Comments

There is no love sincerer than the love of food.
George Bernard Shaw, Man and Superman

The restaurant industry operates at an incredibly rapid pace. The reason for this is evident; the more covers the restaurant turns over in a single sitting, the more revenue the business brings in.

When established brick-and-mortar businesses (such as restaurants) first discover the internet, they often see a new channel through which to entice potential customers to visit their establishment. This is usually where their interaction with the internet ends.

Today’s release helps to expand the restaurant’s interaction with their potential customers via the internet.

Patrons of Café Woo, we present to you Bon Appétit, a tasty restaurant theme for WordPress.

Stay Fashionable when selling online

July 29, 2014 - 9 Comments

To create something exceptional, your mindset must be relentlessly focused on the smallest detail.
Giorgio Armani

When setting out on your adventure to sell online, you may initially feel like a small fish in an infinitely large pond. With enterprise-level online retailers making up a large portion of the market, the primary challenge for any small business retailer is to stand out.

One way to stand out is to position yourself as a large brand, aiming to compete alongside the enterprise-level retailers. This amounts to “fake it ’til you make it”, which is a concept proven successful many times over.

Today’s release is one we are exceptionally excited to share with you all.

Ladies and gentlemen of the Wooniverse, please give a warm welcome to Fashionable, a timeless online store theme for WordPress.

TimThumb vulnerability and how to protect your website

June 26, 2014 - 11 Comments

tl;dr – Be sure you’re running the latest version of the WooFramework. If you are, your website is safe from this exploit. For added security, add define ('WEBSHOT_ENABLED', false); to your wp-config.php file.

A security vulnerability within the TimThumb image resizing script was recently brought to light. This vulnerability uses the webshots feature (in beta) in TimThumb to gain unauthorised access to a website running TimThumb.

TimThumb, bundled into our WooFramework, is a script we keep a close eye on, to ensure it is safe and secure for you, our customers. While we are working through steps to remove TimThumb from our framework, the script is currently present in the WooFramework.
