WooCommerce Memberships: Access based on start date

It would be great to have the ability to restrict content based on membership start date. For instance, I sell weekly meal plan subscriptions. I give the content in pdf form as a file download as well as in a series of pages with recipe cards that they can access online.

How it is now, if someone signs up today, they would have online access to ALL meal plans from the past via the online versions unless I take them down the week after (or at some point after) they are originally released as the content for that week.

It would be great to set the content access date based on membership start such that you could protect a page or some part of a page to members that sign up before a certain date. So, the meal plan of this week would be accessible for any members that signed up on or before a set date. Any new members after the date set would not have access to that plan but would have access to new plans released and restricted appropriately.

This could apply nicely to any online weekly content.

It is 2022 now. I am not seeing this as feature; did I miss something.

    This is a game changer.

  2. William says:

We definitely would buy this plugin if this feature is added

Please, please, please do something about this issue. And please make it a priority. I was told Woo does lots of magazine subscriptions – this must have been false information? Because magazine subscriptions require that you receive only the magazine editions that you paid for, not the whole back catalogue!

  4. Jenny says:

We solved this on our vip-blog with Paid Memberships Pro and some custome code.

    Dear WC Team,

You are taking too much time to provide us a simple solution which should come by default in this plugin. A past content restiction which restrict the past posts before the subscription period. A hefty sum involved for buying this plugin and even after numerous request, you are not listening to your customers.

  6. ajit says:

Really? How did you consider it less important? I work hard to prepare my contents and someone subscribe a year letter only a very nominal subscription fees can have access all the contents without paying a dime for those past contents.
We need RCP like past content restriction. Thats all.

Hei, it’s not fair! I was anxiously waiting for this feature to be implemented. The fact it’s complex implementing it it’s not a good reason to abandon it. A lot of people need this feature and have been waiting for years. Please reconsider your decision.

Please is there any news on this topic? I would really like to use only woocommerce on my site, but i am using woocommerce for products and RCP for my subscriptions, because my client is an online magazine and want to limit access of previous content. RCP has been doing this for a while now.

Does anyone know how to do a work around for this issue?

  12. Brent says:

Wow…Seriously? This is to difficult for our devs to wrap their heads around…we’re just going to ignore it and pretend it’s not an important feature for a membership site.

Unbelievable…Please turn over control of the WooMemberships to a shop that doesn’t run in the face of complexity!

  13. Justin says:

This would be important for us, especially as we are launching an online digital magazine. This way we are not giving away “all” of the issues to someone that just subscribed.

  14. anonymous says:

Any news on the release date ? Q1 is finished and we’re in mid of Q2. Please let us know. This is something which all “news” type of memberships requires.

  15. Kaye says:

Eagerly awaiting this update as well. It is too much work come every renewal time with the current system.

  16. Brent says:

    Any updates?

Version 1.7 does have fixed-date membership plans.

I currently achieve this functionality using Sequential Upgrades in WishList Member. We want to move to WooCommerce + Memberships but this is holding us back. Would really like to see this feature added.

  19. Gray Ayer says:

We accomplished something like this for FloraBowley.com using the WooCommerce Post Locker, and a lot of custom code, but it would be nice to just have this an option in settings.

  20. Gram Davis says:

This seems like a serious no brainer for any Membership site.

  21. Lars says:

Would also be a very crucial and important feature for us – especially in combination with WC Memberships and WC Subsriptions. Workarounds are very cumbersome and manual. So the early the better!

  22. Danny says:

This should be at the top of the ROADMAP!!

  23. Rooks Advertising says:

This is the one missing feature that will prevent me from using WC Memberships and WC Subscriptions for my current project. I wish I could use them, but the client requires this functionality. So unfortunately I will have to settle for Restrict Content Pro, as that provides this required functionality by default. If you get this feature implemented before years end, I can ditch RCP and use WC Memberships and WC Subscriptions instead. Wishful thinking.

  24. CPM says:

I just bought the Membership + Subscriptions extensions thinking this would be a no-brainer option and am shocked that there is no way to limited content based on publication date & membership date. I guess I will have to get a refund. Not sure what to do now!

  25. Todd says:

Please add functionality to limit if someone is new to the site that they are only receiving content from when they join and forward. In other words if someone joins in 2013 and we release material weekly to them for two years and someone joins 2015 we don’t want them to have all the past materials only material released during the time they have been a client.
    Thank you so much!
