When customers select Japan as the shipping country, WooCommerce reformats the address using a Western structure that does not comply with the Japanese address standard. This results in incorrect display and potential loss of critical information, especially the prefecture.
Example of correctly entered address by the customer:
Name: Fusako Soshin
Street: 2-16-10 Kamikojaku
City/Ward: Kitakyushu-city, Yahata Nishi-ku
Prefecture + Postal code: Fukuoka 807-0072
Country: Japan
However, the order summary and confirmation display it as:
807-0072
Fukuoka Kitakyushu-city, Yahata Nishi-ku 2-16-10 Kamikojaku
Soshin Fusako
Japan
Issues observed:
The prefecture (Fukuoka) is not clearly identified as a distinct administrative level and may appear missing or merged.
The address lines are reordered, mixing street and city fields.
The name order is reversed automatically.
This formatting does not follow Japanese postal standards and may cause delivery issues.
Requested improvement:
Implement native support for Japanese address formatting in WooCommerce, including:
Dedicated and correctly mapped field for prefecture
Preservation of field order based on Japanese standards
Optional layout customization per country in checkout and order display
This enhancement would improve international compatibility and reduce delivery errors for Japanese customers.
Thanks by advance
