I was on the phone with FedEx API support and the customer representative was able to see “26 +” calls to the API in the matter of a few seconds. Conclusion: each time data was entered into the shipping address fields, a call was made. This presents a major bug that can result in being flagged by the API as spamming. There is a daily limit to how many calls can be made per key, so if a store is heavily trafficked, it is likely that the API will stop returning rates and require someone to call FedEx support to have the block lifted.
