I’m writing to share a real operational limitation we’re currently facing when using the WooCommerce mobile app (Android) for in-person sales, and to ask whether there is any possibility of improvement or roadmap consideration.
Context
We operate a physical point of sale in Brazil using WooCommerce with the official WooCommerce mobile app. Payments are collected outside the app, using a physical card terminal (credit card) or cash, and then manually registered in WooCommerce for stock control and reporting.
Current Limitation
At the moment, in the WooCommerce mobile app:
Only “Cash” is available as an assisted/manual in-person payment option.
Other offline/manual payment methods (e.g. cheque or custom gateways) are not shown in the app UI.
There is no way to:
Register Credit Card (external terminal) as an in-person payment method.
Customize the labels/names of in-person payment methods.
Add a simple selector (e.g. Cash vs Credit Card) on the final screen.
This creates a usability issue for non-technical staff, especially in countries like Brazil where:
WooPayments in-person payments are not supported.
External card terminals are the standard.
Merchants still need accurate reporting by payment method (Cash vs Card).
Request / Suggestions
We would like to ask if it would be possible to consider one or both of the following:
Allow “Credit Card (external terminal)” as an assisted/manual in-person payment option
Similar to Cash, but without processing the payment inside the app — only registering it.
Allow customization of in-person payment method labels for unsupported countries
For example:
Replace “Cash” with something like “Conclude Sale”
Or allow multiple manual options such as:
Cash
Credit Card (External Terminal)
Even a basic configuration option (country-based or store-based) would significantly improve usability for physical stores outside the US/UK.
Why this matters
This is a very common retail workflow outside supported WooPayments regions.
It reduces human error at checkout.
It makes WooCommerce a much stronger POS solution globally, without requiring full payment processing integration.
We understand the current architectural limitations of the app, but wanted to share this real-world use case in case it aligns with future roadmap discussions.
Thank you for your time and for the continued work on WooCommerce.
