Seymour Duncan manufactures a large range of guitar and bass pickups.
Founder Seymour W. Duncan taught himself how to re-wind a broken pickup using a record player turntable. Surprised and pleased at how the result improved his guitar’s tone, Duncan honed his skills under Les Paul and Seth Lover, inventor of the humbucking pickup.
The JB is famously the most-recorded guitar pickup of all time.
After working at Fender’s Soundhouse in London, Duncan moved to California and started his own pickup rewinding service. Demand quickly grew; within two decades he was manufacturing an assortment of electric, bass, and acoustic guitar pickups. Notable Seymour Duncan artists include Slash, Jeff Beck, Carol Kaye, and Steve Harris.
The company has also branched out to create a line of effects pedals that are designed and assembled in America. In 2012, Seymour Duncan was inducted into the Vintage Guitar Hall of Fame for his contributions to the music industry.
