I have written workflows to assign custom user roles to people purchasing subscriptions. These user roles in turn are used to allow access to subscriber-only content using the Restrict Access plugin.
However, there’s no way to change the user role of the *recipient* of a gift subscription. I can only change the user role of the purchaser of a gift subscription.

This is also a pain point we are exploring. The Subscription Settings allow setting a Subscription Role, so it would make sense for users receiving a gifted subscription to get that same role somehow.
