Control or Disable Creation of Additional Image Sizes When Adding Images to Media Library

Background:
When we upload images to our WP media library, woocommerce automatically creates additional sizes of the images, including a main image and a thumbnail. Since most of the images we upload to the WP media library are not needed for woocomerce, this results in a large amount of extra image files that take up space on the server and add to page design time when choosing between images.

Desired Settings and Functionality:
Ideally, Woocommerce would not create the additional image sizes until an image is used as a product image. And it would also purge the additional images if the image ceased to be used as a product image or if the product is deleted. The purge would only happen if the image was not in use in another location on the website.

Users would have the option of enabling the postpone feature and the purge feature. They could also have the option of enabling a warning that the images woo created for the product will be purged. Since it’s possible that an image hosted on the website server is displayed off-site, the warning could also mention this.

Additionally, there could be a manual purge option, which would allow users to purge all unused images that woo generated and which are not in use. There could be a preliminary step where the images are tagged or added to a category to give users the option of reviewing the files before performing the purge.
