My understanding is that the built-in renewal process for memberships uses the originally purchased product to renew the membership. I would prefer that the renewal process use the product specified in the WooCommerce Membership Plans settings to grant access instead.
While the most common use case would be that the product granting access to a membership does not change, there are situations where that isn’t the case. Further, using the current setting for the product granting membership seems to allow for both the case where that product never changes as well as the case where the product does change.
