I’m excited about this theme! Almost a month after teasing you with some original screenshots of Liam Mckay’s awesome design we have finally completed the conversion to a flexible, neatly coded WordPress theme. You commented, and we listened and built some awesome functionality into this theme.

Breathing some new life into the incredible success of Gazette Edition we wanted another news/magazine based theme that was minimalistic enough to let your content speak, whilst customizable enough to brand however you like. We approached our friend Liam McKay as we thought this was just up his alley, and did he impress!

de

The JQuery-based featured scroller was coded from scratch by Fox, can you believe his skills! With the “Talking Points” module also uniquely coded to showcase articles perhaps gathering dust, that can be showcased on your home page by pulling through a specific tag’s results organised from most commented to least.

With 19 alternate styles designed by both myself and Cobus there should be a style that closely fits your brand. By clicking a few buttons in the theme option’s panel you can have a completely different home page in seconds, see the two example screenshots below:

Please leave a comment below with your thoughts and constructive feedback. If you like the theme you can view more information and purchase it here, or test drive it on our demo server.

Daily Edition free wallpaper

Daily Edition Wallpaper TeaserThe wallpaper Liam made for us to promote the Daily Edition theme is a wonderful collage of big news stories over recent history, the overall feel is supposed to be quite soft with elements of watercolour and other textures throughout.

I’m already sporting in on my desktop and it looks wonderful.

The wallpaper is available in 5 different sizes:

Looks great. How does it look without the thumbnail pics? Could you use it without the thumbs?

Can you also disable the images in the main featured area, or just disable the featured area?

Glad you like. The Twitter widget works fine on the demo, the link to twitter may have been down momentarily.

    Impressive. Great customisation options.

I’m seeing some odd behaviour in the demo video selector under IE8. If I rollover some of the items in the video list they start replicating into a long text list. No problem in FF3.5.

Also are the videos means to be showing thumbnails ?

We are aware of the IE8 bug with the video thumbs, and Fox is working on a fix. Thumbnails will display if images are added to the post. I’ll add a couple to the demo.

I can see why you guys are so excited about this theme… it’s a beauty.

Maybe it’s just me, but are you guys adding more and more layout options into each of your themes lately? It just seems like each theme is getting more and more “layered”, or multi-faceted. It’s pretty darn cool, I think. You guys are definitely out-doing yourselves!

      Thanks for the words Adam.

I wouldn’t say all our themes we are producing lately contain more and more layout options, but we do like to experiment with new features, some are awesome because of their simplicity, others are awesome because of the abundance of options available. This is one of those.

Awesome design and so many color options ready to go! I love the minimalist styling, the font choices and overall layout. I’m sure this will be a best seller. Currently using Gazette in one of my sites, but am going to change it up with The Daily Edition.

And I agree with Adam, your themes are amazing with all of the different options!

    Hey, me again …

I found all fonts (ChunkFive, Florence and Nevis) except “FFMt Bk”.
Can you give me a link to this font or all full name? 😉

    Sorry

    Delicious!

Can’t wait to try this theme.

Could you implement a pot-file(?) for us to easily translate the themes?
I think that would be highly interesting.

Thanks a ton for a new amazing theme!

Hi Fox, very sharp! Could you please point me to the video feature? Can’t find it. Thanks!

Sorry Adii, I’m new to WP, I should have posed that question to you. I see from reading upward that some vid issues may have been a prob but were fixed. Will there be an integrated vid feature reinserted in the demo? Maybe a featured vid section with vid archive?

  18. Ryan
    September 18, 2009 at 2:59 am #

My apologies, I was looking at the journal theme. Could you add a vid feature/archive to that theme?

Unfortunately, I don’t think we’ll be adding a video feature to Journal Theme.

Thanks Mag, bummer. It’s a tight fit layout. Only thing it’s missing is vid. Take care.

    About the wallpaper:

“big news stories over recent history” – you should probably change that to “big news stories over recent U.S. history” (apart from Diana)

I’m still thinking of buying this one. I have a question about the slider. I love how you can now easily change the slider size in Gazette. Can you do the same with Daily Edition? Thanks.
