Lospalos Coconut Oil is a sustainable, ethical business empowering Timorese women.
By producing virgin coconut oil (VCO) in remote rural areas, they are creating a market for local subsistence farmers who had no previous way to earn money from their coconuts.
Although organic coconut oil has been produced in rural Timorese villages for many years, Lospalos’ goal is to raise the standard of oil through systematic processes and new equipment. They aim to not only provide an international market for the oil, but also showcase the country of Timor-Leste.
The company was founded in 2018 by two former Australian soldiers who wanted to benefit the community and “disrupt the norm and address the gender income disparity” by improving the welfare of entire families, rather than just the income earner.
“Our store uses a custom-built theme using Stripe for payments and is connected via API to Mintsoft fulfillment software, which makes fulfilling orders an almost-automated process.”
