It’s hard to comprehend that even today native Discontinued product status is missing from WooCommerce.
Given that there are zero products in the world available ad Infinitum, overall there are no upsides for not having the feature natively built into Woo.
The typical suggestions e.g. change visibility, unpublish, delete, etc. are all sub-optimum for:
1. SEO.
2. User experience.
3. Reporting and maintenance.
Currently, some 3rd party or open-source solutions exist, and lots and lots of poor advice workarounds on the net attract most users looking for a basic maintenance solution in their store. Open Source> https://github.com/twoelevenjay/woocommerce-discontinued-products

They never will add a feature request to the woocommerce core that is expand functionality, instead of that they will build a paid plugin for that.
Take a look here: https://woocommerce.com/feature-requests/woocommerce/
there are a lot of feature requests and none is implemented, but if you search for a plugin that include a feature that is on that list, you will see a lot of paid plugins
As for me i have found solution for many features that i needed on my store with the help of AI (chatgpt) and i have build my own plugins and functional codes to replace many paid plugins, soon for most of abilities that comes with paid plugins will be removed.
That is really needed option especially for large woocommerce websites
