Coupon extension for expired coupons

Currently we offer a coupon extension for customers who have purchased coupons from our site. Once they have expired, with the smart coupon system this doesnt seem possible to do, can I put this forward as an update so that once coupon dates have expired, customers are able to purchase a coupon extension to their expired coupon?
