variant_option in Google for Woocommerce

Hi Google for WooCommerce Support Team,

I wanted to share a feature request that I think is becoming increasingly important for stores using variable products.

Google Merchant Center now supports the variant_option attribute, which is designed for products where variations are based on something other than the standard Color, Size, Material, or Pattern.

Google’s official reference:
https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/17085214

For example, many WooCommerce stores have perfectly valid variation attributes such as:

Capacity: 3 Guitars / 5 Guitars / 7 Guitars / 9 Guitars
Pack Quantity: 1 Pair / 2 Pair / 5 Pair / 10 Pair
String Count: 4 String / 5 String / 6 String
Finish Type: Matte / Glossy / Eco
Other category-specific options that do not naturally belong under Size or Color

At the moment, Google for WooCommerce does not appear to expose variant_option in the Attribute Mapping section.

This creates an awkward situation for merchants. We either have to map these attributes to unrelated fields such as Size or Color, which would make the product data inaccurate and could potentially create Merchant Center data-quality issues, or leave the attributes unmapped even though they are the actual properties distinguishing one variation from another.

A possible workaround is using a separate supplemental data source in Merchant Center just to provide variant_option, but that adds extra maintenance and reduces the convenience of having Google for WooCommerce manage the product sync.

It would be extremely useful if native support for variant_option could be added to Google for WooCommerce, ideally allowing any WooCommerce global attribute to be mapped to it.

For example:

Capacity → variant_option
Pack Quantity → variant_option
String Count → variant_option
Finish Type → variant_option

Even better would be if the plugin could automatically send the WooCommerce attribute name together with the selected variation value for each child variation, while continuing to handle the correct product grouping and item_group_id in the background.

This would make Google for WooCommerce much more flexible for non-apparel catalogs and stores with complex product configurations. More importantly, it would allow merchants to send accurate variation information to Google without forcing attributes into fields where they do not belong.

Since Google has already officially introduced and documented variant_option, I really hope native support for it can be prioritized in an upcoming Google for WooCommerce release.
