Helping you perceive the abilities of WooCommerce

WooCommerce continues to grow from strength to strength with it now averaging over 1,000 downloads a day and reaching the top spot for the search term «ecommerce» on the WordPress plugin repository.

Designed in-house by Jay Koster, «Sentient» is our latest WooCommerce powered shopfront theme for serious online sellers. It’s unique selling point is it’s jQuery Masonry plugin usage. Products are cleverly lined up bricks-and-mortar fashion and there’s an option to make all shop pages true-full-width to take advantage of this nifty feature. That coupled with it’s device agnostic design – meaning whether you’re viewing the theme on your desktop, your tablet or your smartphone, it responds and adapts delivering an optimised design for that device.

Different sized products on the homepage, and more product details when hovering.
Sentient loves wide browsers thanks to JMasonry.

The homepage is full of options. Choose whether to display content from a recent blog post or page, how many recent, featured or best selling products to showcase and in which format, grid or slider. On top of that there’s a handy widgetised region and a simple call to action beneath the products inviting your users into the main shop section of your online store.

Careful attention has been given to page templates. See the slick, professional checkout page above.

Of course all the WooCommerce extensions are compatible with Sentient, as are all our WooCommerce themes. That means even more power and functionality is available at your fingertips to take your storefront to the next level.

  1. Finally!!!! Thanks
I was asking you guys why you do not wanna use this great jQuery script on pages.
Would fit to pages like CANVAS and give user great ways to publish in a creative way his content.
This would solve the problem with some page templates in Canvas to fit on mobile devices.

    great step!
I hope there will follow themes with an option in backoffice to wether or not use the script.

  7. Where can we see the following in actions?

«Choose whether to display content from a recent blog post or page, how many recent, featured or best selling products to showcase and in which format, grid or slider. On top of that there’s a handy widgetised region»

I’d love to see some of these options. How about showing some in the demo on the site?

    • These options are set on the demo. Content is displayed from a WordPress page («Welcome to Sentient»), featured and best selling products are displayed as sliders, there’s a widget (the sticky) and obviously new products displayed as a grid.

      • Gotcha, thanks! Sorry I didn’t catch it.

I love your 1.0’s and the awesome support I receive whenever there is an issue. 🙂

  8. Hola, theme looks beautiful, however its menu has serious issues under WinXP + Firefox… Have you gave up on testing?

I know you like that «version 1.0 sucks but ship it anyway» style of work, however – last days I think you are beginning to be a little bit like Microsoft or Adobe. Patch on patch over patch patching latest patch (yes, I am talking about miniature micro-patches on almost daily basis without testing instead of regular testing + release process). I love Woo, but this approcach sucks, guys!

    • «Serious issues»? Really? 😛

We do a huge amount of testing on all of our themes but they’re rather large and complex, there will always be small bugs which sneak through. We’re a small team and thousands of users will always find these faster than we can, as they start putting the themes to use.

This particular issue will likely clear up with Firefox updates. We’re using CSS to create the rounded tab effect (rather than images) which is pretty bleeding edge imo 🙂

Personally I don’t think this is an issue, but if it’s a dealbreaker I could help you resolve the issue in Firefox with a little code (or show you what to remove to disable the effect).

      • It is very beautiful to see you avoiding simple question using lot of smileys, however I don’t want help with this, I can fix it by myself. You’re not much a get-to-the-point guy, right?

I was questioning latest Woo approach to all themes, not just this particular one.

And yes, it IS serious issue when a theme clearly doesn’t look as it should in one of the two «major-use» browsers, mainly if the bug is in the menu, which is clearly an element which everyone has to see and use.

        • Steven, if they’re doing such a shitty job – maybe you should reconsider supporting them as opposed to launching ludicrous attacks in a public forum.

In closing, you mentioned «I love Woo, but this approach sucks, guys!»; By the same token, I’d say that «I’m sure someone loves you, but your approach sucks!»

          • Thanks for turning this against me.
            I love sheep.

I have never told anywhere that they’re doing shitty job, you are putting words in my mouth. I asked simple question («Did you gave up on testing?»), my argument was turned as it was a silly question (“Serious issues”? Really? :-P).

In my next comment I pointed out that James is flanking the answer and rest was your job. Thanks.

James, feel free to remove the thread if you feel attacked or don’t want to have it here anymore (I understand), I wanted just one honest and simple answer. As simple as the question was.

I am not going to follow this conversation anymore, so don’t bother to answer any previous questions.

          • Haha I don’t feel attacked. I was just surprised by the tone of your comment and your reason to claim our 1.0’s «suck». I was expecting to see something a little more dramatic in your screenshot than some extraneous lines which are easily removed. Hence my questioning whether it was a genuinely serious issue. I certainly didn’t mean to mock your bug report 😛

            febrero 20, 2012
        • I answered the only question in your comment; We do lots of testing but bugs are inevitable. They are fixed as we’re alerted to their presence. Lots of users will find bugs that a small team might miss.

I appreciate lots of incremental updates can be a pain but you can always check the changelog before deciding whether it’s essential you upgrade immediately or not.

I think saying most of our version 1.0’s suck is hyperbole to the extreme. Obviously the 1.0 release is the most buggy, but that’s a universal issue not specific to WooThemes. Bugs decrease as products evolve.

  24. It has been a long time since I came to be trained with Alan Maryama (from Denver’s Montview Blvd. Presbyterian Church) in early 1980. Without a doubt, God and this training has been with me ever since. Thank you for the design of this program, and thank you particularly for your continuing presence in God’s presence.
