Last Friday was the end of my first Week at WooThemes as a WooCommerce Support Ninja. I wanted to write a quick post and share my thoughts about the experience so far.
The positive energy and passion of everyone here is amazing. It’s infectious and inspiring. I already have a couple of blog posts in draft, several small plugin ideas, and have vowed to commit (however small) something to WordPress core by the end of 2013. Everyone definitely shares my view on trying to be better than you were the day before.
Watching really smart people interacting is fascinating. The openness and transparency of everything means that I am privy to a lot of ideas unfolding. It is far more rewarding to see where these ideas come from than it is just to hear about the idea after the fact.
As most people already know, the majority of the WooThemes team is distributed across the globe. Currently, I am the only Canadian Ninja! Although I am used to working from my home office, this is the first time where I’ve worked for a distributed company and not been able to head into the local office for face-to-face chats. I don’t feel as disconnected as I thought I might. While video calls and chat conversations don’t negate the need for physical interactions, I do certainly feel a connection to the other Ninjas; more than I thought I would. These are smart, funny, personable folks you just want to hang out with and talk about anything from zombies to the next steps for WooCommerce. I look forward to meeting them all in person at the next WooTrip!
I’ve really been enjoying my experience here, and will hopefully continue to do so for a long time to come! Woo!
