The ability to have actual products linked to a product add-on would be amazing!
Sometimes there are a handful of small products relating the parent product, but it is too cluttered to try and show them all in ‘related’ or the cart. Instead, having the ability to assign products to an add-on field, I could have a handful of thumbnails the client could select from (or choose none), which would add the actual products to their cart at checkout. This would also let me know which products they added or not, by simply checking their cart data, and gives me an option to upsell them on the products after checkout, if not added/purchased.
There’s a competing plugin that does this amazingly well, but I like the overall aesthetic of this one more, and having the item data stored as meta means it syncs to my shipping provider, which is where I process orders.

Product Add-Ons allows you to add customizable options to your products. These options are product characteristics/attributes, like color or engraving, and not actual physical products from your store.
To achieve the result you have in mind, I encourage you to have a look at the Bundle-Sells feature: https://woocommerce.com/document/bundles/bundles-configuration/#bundle-sells provided by Product Bundles: https://woocommerce.com/products/product-bundles/. Bundle-Sells allows you to add products from your store as add-ons to other products.
