Stripe restricts the ability to capture a lesser amount when accurate level 3 line item data is sent to them. So authorizing $1000 and capturing $950 now throws an error. It didn’t used to. By sending accurate line item information, businesses owners are being penalized.
Use case:
Business sells natural products, like leather hides, where cows are not one size and tipped on a regular basis for enjoyment of cowboys. Customer orders one cow tipped leather hide that on average is 50 sq/ft with a variance of +/- 10%. So:
1. Customer orders 50 sq/ft at $15 per sq/ft = $750
2. Business authorizes $750 + 10% = $825
3. Business picks, packs & ships 52 sq/ft = $780
4. Business captures $780 with accurate level 3 data
5. Cowboys can continue cow tipping
Thanks.
