It seems that it shouldn’t be too difficult to provide a button when editing the Pre-Order to change the payment method

Hi,
That’s a reasonable gap — customers change cards, banks reject transactions, or payment details go stale, and not having a way to update the payment method on an existing pre-order forces you to cancel and recreate the whole order just to fix that.
Smart Pre-Order Manager for WooCommerce lets you change the payment method directly from the pre-order edit screen, so you’re not stuck canceling and rebuilding the order just to update payment details.
