Make store credit compatible with subscriptions (ability to apply store credit to subscription which then applies it to renwals until store credit is depleted)

Both customers and admins should be able to apply store credits issued with the Smart Coupons plugin to subscriptions. Right now this can only be applied by a customer to a subscription parent order, not when the subscription is already ‘running’. The customer should be able to apply a store credit to a subscription via the My Account > Subscription screen, or ideally also via My Account > Coupons and a new function to ‘apply store credit to subscription’. This will then add the store credit to the subscription and renewals will automatically use the store credit until it’s depleted which then will remove the store credit coupon from the subscription. If this isn’t possible due to WooCommerce Subscriptions (core) limitations, there could be an option that says ‘automatically apply any available store credit to subscription renwals’.

Other plugins have found workarounds. For example, the WPGens Refer a Friend plugin generates single-use coupons (either one-off fixed amount or one-off percentage) and has an option to tick ‘automatically apply available referral reward coupons to subscription renewals’. That way, as soon as a customer has a referral reward coupon that’s assigned to their email address, it automatically gets applied to the next subscription renewal. It’s not technically added to the subscription post itself (I believe) but they have found a way to make sure those reward coupons do get applied to subscription renewals. I believe that it’s a huge limitation that customers who receive a store credit are unable to apply it to their subscription. Which links back to something I’ve brought up years ago – the store credit shouldn’t even work like a coupon in the first place, it should work like a payment method. Technically a store credit is the same as cash.
