In order for the plugins renewal features to be legally compliant in several major jurisdiction’s reminder emails need to be part of the plugin core for the sake of your customers and their overall risk. The more configurable to specific subscriptions products the better as the laws vary depending on if a free trial period is included or if the subscription exceeds certain periods of time (eg a year or more).

I understand there a 3rd party plugins that can assist with this but this plugin is not cheap to begin with and exposes developers and business owners to a lot of risk. Many of whom are completeley unaware of the constantly changing legal landscape around subscription regulations.

Paid Memberships Pro recently made it part of their free core, once a premium addon, for this reason.
