Show Customers Their Purchase History Directly on Product Pages

Hello WooCommerce Team and Community,

I would like to propose a native WooCommerce feature that allows customers to view their previous purchases of a specific product directly on that product’s page.

WooCommerce provides order history and a dedicated Downloads section for downloadable products. However, when customers purchase the same product multiple times, finding a particular purchase can become unnecessarily difficult, especially when they have many orders.

This is particularly relevant to digital stores and marketplaces that sell software licenses, activation codes, digital assets, downloadable files, subscriptions, and other products that customers may purchase repeatedly.

1. Show Previous Purchases on the Relevant Product Page

Consider a customer who purchases the same Windows license product three times over several weeks.

When the customer visits that product’s page again, they should be able to see a section such as:

Your Previous Purchases of This Product

Purchase Date Order Number Status
September 10 #1024 Completed
September 18 #1182 Completed
October 2 #1456 Completed

The dates, order numbers, and statuses above are illustrative examples.

Instead of searching through dozens or hundreds of orders, the customer could immediately find previous purchases associated with that specific product.

I would like WooCommerce to provide:

A product-specific purchase history section on the single product page.
The number of times the currently logged-in customer has purchased that product.
A list of previous purchases, including relevant dates, order numbers, and order statuses.
A way to open the corresponding order details.
Appropriate handling of products purchased multiple times, including purchases made through different orders.
2. Preserve the Normal Purchase Button

Importantly, I do not want the normal purchase button to be automatically replaced or removed after a customer buys a product.

Many products can legitimately be purchased more than once. For example, customers may need additional software licenses, activation codes, credits, or copies of the same digital product.

The customer should therefore be able to purchase the product again while also having convenient access to their purchase history.

The purchase history should be an additional feature, not a replacement for the Add to Cart or purchase button.

3. Convenient Access to Previously Purchased Digital Products

Where applicable, the purchase history could also provide access to the digital content or information associated with each purchase.

For example:

Downloadable products: Provide a link to the relevant purchased download when the customer is authorized to access it.
Software licenses and activation codes: Display the relevant purchase details and, where supported by the store’s delivery system, the associated license or activation information.
Other digital products: Provide an appropriate link to the purchased content or the relevant order details.

Access must respect the permissions and restrictions associated with each purchase. Expired or revoked download permissions, download limits, order status requirements, and other applicable restrictions should continue to be enforced.

Sensitive information should only be displayed to the authorized customer who owns the relevant purchase.

4. Why This Matters

For customers with many orders, finding a particular purchase through the general order history can be time-consuming.

This becomes especially frustrating when a customer needs to retrieve a previously purchased license, activation code, file, or other digital item.

A product-specific purchase history would make WooCommerce easier to use, reduce unnecessary support requests, and improve the post-purchase experience.

It would also benefit marketplaces where customers purchase multiple products from different sellers and may return to the same product page repeatedly.

Conclusion

I encourage the WooCommerce team to consider adding a native, permission-aware purchase history feature to individual product pages.

Customers should be able to revisit a product and immediately see how many times they have purchased it, find their previous purchases of that product, and access the relevant purchase details without searching through their entire order history.

The normal purchase button should remain available, allowing customers to buy the same product again whenever the store permits it.

This would be a particularly valuable improvement for digital stores and marketplaces, where repeated purchases and access to previously purchased content are common.

Thank you for your continued work on WooCommerce. I would appreciate hearing the community’s thoughts on this proposal.

    3. Display Purchased Downloadable Files Directly on the Product Page

WooCommerce provides access to purchased downloads through the order confirmation page, customer emails, and the My Account → Downloads section. However, customers should also have a convenient way to access their purchased files directly from the corresponding product page.

For digital stores, having to navigate to a separate downloads section every time a customer wants to retrieve a previously purchased file creates unnecessary friction.

    Feature request:

Please introduce a native, permission-aware feature that displays a customer’s purchased downloadable files directly on the relevant single product page.

For example, if a customer purchases a music album, revisiting the album’s product page should allow them to see and download the files included in their purchase without having to search through their general downloads library.

This feature should support different types of downloadable products, including:

Albums and collections: Display individual tracks when they are separate downloadable files, or provide access to a ZIP archive when the product contains a bundled download.
Products with multiple files: Display all files available to the customer under the relevant purchase.
Software and digital assets: Provide access to the purchased installers, documents, license files, or other downloadable content, where applicable.
Products purchased multiple times: Allow customers to identify their previous purchases and access the files associated with each purchase, subject to the applicable permissions.

    The feature should:

Display the actual downloadable files associated with the customer’s eligible purchase, rather than simply linking to the general Downloads page.
Support products containing multiple downloadable files, including individual files and ZIP archives.
Preserve WooCommerce’s existing download permissions, expiration dates, download limits, and other applicable restrictions.
Show purchased files only to customers who are authorized to access them.
Work alongside the normal purchase button, so customers can purchase the same product again when permitted.
Integrate naturally with the existing single product page without requiring additional third-party plugins or custom code.

The goal is to make the product page a convenient place not only to discover and purchase a digital product, but also to return to the content the customer has already purchased.

For example, a customer who purchases a music album should be able to revisit that album’s page and immediately find the downloadable tracks or ZIP archive included in their purchase, rather than having to navigate through a long list of unrelated downloads.

This would be particularly valuable for digital marketplaces, music stores, software stores, and other businesses offering products with multiple downloadable files.
