The WooCommerce Distance Rate Shipping extension requires the use of an unrestricted Google API key, as stated in the documentation, in order to function properly.
This poses a security risk, as unrestricted keys are more vulnerable to unauthorized use and abuse. Google explicitly provides security options to restrict API keys by IP address, HTTP referrer, or by limiting usage to specific APIs — all of which help reduce potential misuse.
I’d like to request an enhancement to the extension that would allow it to work correctly with restricted API keys, following Google’s recommended practices. This would significantly improve the security posture of any store using this feature.

Did you guys consider letting customers know this by contacting them, when you introduced this break changing change? It seems you just added a comment later on on docs? (shown in the screenshot). That didn’t assist in anyway for existing customers.
Worse, it broke silently when it was introduced, meaning that 100’s of customers over the course of the last year have been getting no shipping options, and then just moving on to other stores (if restrictions were already existing against the Google API). The coders and designers behind this plugin . This has been a very disappointing and disruptive development and has broken the plugin, and they haven’t even realized it. They broke it with a release a year ago, many stores using this stopped providing shipping options to customers.
This is insane that it doesn’t already exist. I’m now shopping for another plugin because I keep getting overage charges on my Google key because I can’t restrict it.
