It would be great to be able to upsell and add addons from the checkout. If this was combined with a url system where a user could click a link to add an addon to the product in the cart, to from the products available addons that would be amazing.

Product Add-Ons allows you to add customizable options to your products. These options are product characteristics/attributes, like color or engraving, and not products with physical properties from the rest of your store.
There are two significant challenges with the request you are proposing:
– Since add-ons are not actual products, but product-specific characteristics, it is not possible to display them in the cart as up-sells but tie them to specific cart items. For example, if you have an engraving add-on and two products in the cart, it is not possible to make this add-on apply to one of the two.
– At the moment, WooCommerce core doesn’t allow product modifications in the cart — customers are only able to change the product quantity, but not change the product configuration like changing the selected variation or the selected add-ons. That is why up-sells are standalone products and not product properties.
With these limitations in mind and given that we haven’t received any additional requests for this feature, we don’t have any plans to implement something like this in the foreseeable future.
