WooCommerce Memberships: bbPress integration

This would add the ability to restrict forums, topics, and replies from bbPress to members with WooCommerce memberships. This could also have advanced features, such as the ability to make profiles public / restricted.

bbPress users, what’s important to restrict? How would you like to protect forums to members?

To clarify this — you can restrict forums and topics with “Hide completely” or “Redirect to page” restriction modes. This feature would add:

    – the abiility to use “Hide content” mode
    – restriction around profiles
    – (potentially) the ability to restrict a category, and automatically extend this restriction to any forums in that category (currently child forums don’t inherit the category restriction)

along with suggestions here that are possible / valuable for other users 🙂

    nd what about buddypress ?

Any added features for this integration would be much appreciated

  4. teichfeld says:

this sounds like a good integration

  5. Brent says:

I have my forum set to spectate to keep out spammers and I really need to be able to set a users forum role to “X” when they purchase a membership.

  6. Tim Durden says:

Inheritance would be great; being able to restrict forums and all topics (irrespective of accessing URLs directly), rather than applying this individually would be awesome.

  7. Anonymous says:

I am not clear on one thing after reading the doc.

Can you restrict access to all topics via direct url access or every time a new topic is created you have to restrict access to it, which seems a bit crazy.

I have removed the forums from my XML sitemap and using the Yoast settings have set them to NoIndex but direct access still needs stopping.

    Dale.

  8. Brent says:

I would love to see memberships integrated with the buddypress account page. Having the user access the members area from here makes the most logical sense.

  9. Anonymous says:

I really want that membership gives auto access to a forum but particularly one that is only viewable by members not just only witable by members. We are currently using bbP Private Groups to make a forum private.. this seems very clumsy

  10. Edward Jerome says:

I would like to have my clients use one username and password to access my woocommerce store plugin, my woocommerce membership plugin, and my woocommerce forum plugin.

Thus I would love it if you could add features to the bbPress plugin and make those features match the features that are available with the woocommerce membership plugin.

I hope I am making sense, since I have not had either a store, a membership area, or a forum. I just know I want my forum plugin to match the capabilities of the membership plugin. And I want my clients to be able to login to all three with only one username and password.

  11. Jessica says:

Any improved compatibility would be appreciated! A single area to sign in to a website, where a user can manage their purchases of products and their membership subscriptions, plus update their forum details. It would make for a simple user experience! 🙂

  12. James P. Mason says:

I’d really like to find a way to assign a customer to a conversation based upon their purchase.

Essentially, Customer A purchases a ticket to Event X, and gains access to the Event X forum to discuss getting together with other attendees. Even better if Event X could be divided into subgroups (10AM show, Noon Show, 2PM Show).

  13. Jason Wyatt says:

I would like to be able to drip available subforums to members based on time.

  14. Maggie says:

A forum to integrate with the membership and the subscriptions plugin would be perfect. This is the best possible combo to keep all your costumers coming back! Forums should be assigned to only certain members/subscriptions and a link to those forums should be emailed to the customers as soon as they buy the product/subscription! As always keep it simple, easy and straightforward for the clients.

  15. Jon Vooys says:

Anyone have bbpress and woocommerce memberships working together with user restrictions? I find that my admin can view/comment/post all topics, but users with “participate” permissions cannot view any topic content. They can respond/post however but no content ever displays. Please reply if there is a work for this! Forum content must be hidden for anyone without the permission to view.

  16. Anonymous says:

Would love a better integration !

  17. Anonymous says:

I would also love to see a better integration into bbpress. This is a must-have for us.

  18. Janneke says:

Hereditary restriction would be great. Option to see subject/topics but not the content of the topics and replies would also be great for SEO.

  19. PS says:

I would also love to see a better integration into bbpress or BuddyPress. This is a must-have for us.

  20. Christopher Cantwell says:

I’d like to see this. I just started using memberships and subscriptions and I’m trying to create a members only forum.

  21. Fidel Torres says:

Give private forums for each member ship group. Allow nonmembers to access only public forums.

  22. anonymous says:

I would like to restrict the entire forum to members.

  23. anonymous says:

I would like to restrict the entire forum to members too

  24. Morteza says:

Oh please do this, this is really useful! everyone will use it

  25. N. Baykan Belirdi says:

I would like to use and continue to purchase Woocommerce products, and together with bbpress or BuddyPress forum functionality. I do not want to quit using Storefront. Any chance to use, wooCommerce , Storefront theme and bbPress alltogether with a lovely view and functionality ? This is a must have thing for me. Kind Regards

  26. J S says:

    Any new progress?

  27. anonymous says:

    I would like to:
    (1) Associate one ore more forum to one membership and grant access to the forum to active members of the memberships only
    (2) Use also the “Hide only content” protect mode

  28. Lee Hardin says:

I agree with Fidel Torres’ idea:
“Give private forums for each member ship group. Allow nonmembers to access only public forums.”
I would also add “or all private forums” in addition to just private forum access for their specific membership. For instance, VIP memberships get access to all private forums, etc.

  29. anonymous says:

The admin should be able to decide that certain level members join automatically to bb groups, which is suitable for them. It is not always that the members want to discuss with other members who bought same memberships. Often it can be the opposite. For example buyers want to discuss with sellers and not with other buyers

  30. Rico says:

A better integration with BBpress would be great! I’m trying to create an membership only forum

  31. anonymous says:

It also be great to have it work witth active membership subscriptions to content and for it to automaticly change roles and access to the content once the subscription ends, cancels or failed payment… thank you.

  32. Intelligent Fanatics says:

We would like better integration with bbPress, including inheriting permissions from parent forums, and an able to see topic titles but lock the topics for members only.

  33. Stillnessinyoga says:

I am selling memberships – which includes a private forum – I need to be able to hide the forum from non members

  34. Robert Oglesby says:

I would like to automatically set bbpress roles for new subscribers when they join based on the membership level they choose. Specifically I want to set some membership levels that can view but not post to topics and replies (bbpress role “spectator”) while others have both access and the ability to post (bbpress default role when they register of “participant”). This can be done manually now but to automate this process in the “edit membership plan > restrict content” page would be great.

  35. anonymous says:

Almost all the membership plugins include bbpress integration

  36. Moshe says:

Would love a better integration with bbpress!

  37. Jennifer Van Camp says:

All of my BBpress client websites have some type of membership fee attached to them. Full integration between the two plugins would be wonderful. User type integration, having memberships assign user type in bbress. Having integration between subscriptions and BBpress would be wonderful as well, having a bbpress user profile shown/hidden with an active/inactive subscription would be ideal.

  38. Anonymous says:

I am working on a school website. Their SMF forum is where they do most of their communication. I am porting that to bbpress to take advantage of one signon for all features in the site. The private content was easy to protect. I have yet to get Memberships to protect the bbpress forum, despite following the bbpress instructions. It’d be great if I could just say “protect the forum using this membership” the same way I say “protect this post category using this membership.” Not sure that Woo Memberships will be the plugin for us if I can’t get this to work.

  39. Hannah Smith says:

I would like more options for the fine grained control of content restriction. I want to be able to ‘hide my content’ completely for forums, but ‘redirect to another page’ for other types of content.

  40. Dan says:

I restrict access to member only forums in the membership plan, but it does nothing. Non members see it and can access it at will. I do not see any integration with BBPress as it is.

  41. Anonymous says:

Did this ever happen? I need the ability to restrict my premium forum to only paid subscribers.

  42. Anonymous says:

Protecting the bbpress forums completely by redirecting to a page is not the bad thing but that this option is a global decision. I could not find a way to protect the forums completely while at the same time feeding excerpts of pages or posts to my visitors.

  43. jb510 says:

Need to be able to show forums, without the ability to click through and see topics/replies.

Need to be able to show topics (titles) without the ability to click through and see replies.

Need to restrict by subscription product (using Propress’s subscriptions), which isn’t clear if that’s what this does…. hoping it at least does that.

Restrict by a specific user and a custom user role, such that is cascades from forums>topics>replies.

  44. Ana Cláudia Vaz says:

this really has to happen….we have a social network association, internacional and using other professional member plugin for members checout, no sense.
also the ability to badget the profiles would be nice

  45. Anonymous says:

Please give more functionality with BBpres

  46. Eugenio says:

I need totally hide forums in “hide content only” mode.
This is because I use WooCommerce Memberships for any few types of contents with differents restrictions.

  47. Sammy says:

Allowing at a minimum the title and an except to be visible to non-logged in users and non-members is essential to allow search engines to index your forum and thereby drive traffic to your forum.

  48. Robert says:

I would like to have an option set at joining where premium memberships can join and post and regular memberships join and not be able to post but still see the forums, topics, and replys.

  49. Victor says:

    Please….more integration on profiles

  50. Robert says:

The woo membership status should be able to control posting privilege’s thereby overriding bbPress’s participant role.

  51. Phillip Johnston says:

Lack of integration with bbPress will cause me to get a refund for WooCommerce Memberships to go with Memberpress.

  52. Guillem says:

If it worked well, I would be happy!

  53. Laura says:

This would add the ability to restrict forums, topics, and replies from bbPress to members with WooCommerce memberships. This could also have advanced features, such as the ability to make profiles public / restricted.

  55. Michael says:

I would definitely like to see this. I can’t believe it is already not a part of Memberships.

  56. Anonymous says:

I am trying to create forums for people who purchase different online courses – basically classroom forums. I know that I can create membership roles based on purchases with the membership plugin, but what I need to be able to do is state which forums people with that membership have access to, and which they don’t. (preferably with the option of multiple memberships running simultaneously for anyone who purchases more than one course)

I’d really like this to be a feature please!

  57. Rahul says:

Till the time ist not compatible with bbpress I’ll not buy it .. currently I’m using memberpress .. its costly though BUT serves my purpose

  58. Johnny says:

You can “technically” place a forum behind a membership. HOWEVER, each topic that is added to that forum has to be manually placed into protected content for that membership level, or any logged in user can still access it – such as through Recent Topics/Replies widgets. The topics don’t automatically inherit the protection of the forum it’s under. This is CRAZY!

it will be handy. we can turn bbpress into a member only private forum with all woocomerece features!

  61. Rene' says:

WooCommerce Memberships currently has very basic compatibility with bbPress, and requires you to use certain content restriction modes in order to restrict forums, topics, and/or topic tags. http://rdmedicalproducts.com/high-speed-rotary-die-cutting/

  64. Plataforma Top Learning says:

This is the only thing that makes MemberPress better, the business opportunity that WooCommerce has is incredible and it is wasting by not being able to restrict content from Groups or Forums.
