Everyone benefits from our company retreat

Written by Mark Forrester on March 31, 2010 Product News.

It’s been a month since our company retreat to the Austrian Alps where we enjoyed a week of snow, ski, jagermeister and a little bit of work – how we all wish we could be tele-ported back there right now.

We’ve been absolutely astonished by the amount of media attention our company retreat attracted. It even featured on Mashable yesterday with Josh Catone, the features editor, writing an excellent case study on our social media success surrounding the trip.

Not only did the trip itself attract a lot of attention, but we got a lot of people admiring the WordPress tumblog theme we built to efficiently, and very easily, live blog the activities in the Alps. We therefore decided it was appropriate to add some polish to the theme, and add some more functionality, then release it for general purchase.

We therefore present the aptly named ‘Retreat’ theme to you. Packed full of very uniquely WooThemes developed quickpress publishing tools to easily post and differentiate between image, video, quote, link, audio and article posts. You would have seen this functionality in our Cinch and Slanted WordPress Tumblog themes, however Retreat comes with a customizable header space, an AJAX Twitter widget that can track mentions of certain keywords or users on Twitter and 7 slick, center based alternate styles.

The 'fresh' alternate style to Retreat. Remember that header space is complete customizable. Feel free to add your own background graphics.

There’s also a rumoured iPhone app that is nearing completion that will come in handy with our Tumblog themes.

The delicious blue-grey alternate style for Retreat. Make sure you check the live Twitter widget in the demo.

As always constructive feedback is welcomed, the demo is available for a more detailed inspection and theme listing offers more details on this theme.

Now that is what I call functionality!

Great job guys, gives me a reason to actually purchase another theme just so I can use the special quickpress.

By any chance do you plan on adding the quickpress functionality to other themes like canvas? Would save me a ton of time ripping the logic out of retreat and adding it into canvas manually.

      Hi Shawn,

The quickpress will most likely not be included in Canvas v2 as the theme functionality is quite different to the ideas we have for our Canvas ‘framework’. You are of course most welcome to modify the theme to include it yourself.

Does this mean Woo on The Slopes will no longer be released as a child theme for Cinch? I purchased Cinch and Slanted on day 1 and decided to hold off on building my site until the Child Theme was released. I can’t really afford another 70 dollar purchase. Just hoping the child theme is still a possibility.

Hi Tanner, there are no plans to release Retreat as a child theme for Cinch as the functionality is quite different in areas. Drop us an email and I’ll see what we can arrange for you.

Just what I was looking for!

But, first I need to know if is there a way of showing categories list on the top or in the sidebar with no hard work? (an option in the preferences which can turn this on)?

    Thanks.

Yes this theme has Custom Woo Navigation which lets you arrange the navigation like you want. You can also add a category widget in the sidebar.
