Jack Rudy Cocktail Co.

Cobble Hill is a full-service digital marketing agency in Charleston, SC. Creating inspired experiences on e-commerce platforms, Cobble Hill aims to blend strategy, design and technology for their clients. They’ve been around since 2012.

In this case study Austin Dandridge documents one of their client site developments for Jack Rudy Cocktail Company – a family run bar goods company that makes mixers for cocktails. They are distributed internationally and are rapidly expanding their offerings.

The majority of the sites we build these days at Cobble Hill are built on WordPress. It is flexible and easy to customize, and our clients love it because it is easy for them to edit their content. WooCommerce is easy to integrate into WordPress and the dashboard of WooCommerce is very intuitive for clients. It has a very clean look. All of the sites we build are 100% custom designs and themes, in the case of Jack Rudy Cocktail Company we developed an adaptive theme.

WooCommerce has been an amazing shopping cart for us to use. The backend is simple to navigate and our life is much easier due to the ability to tie in shipping fulfillment for our products.Brooks Reitz, owner of Jack Rudy Cocktail Co.

Prior to the Jack Rudy Cocktail Company site, we developed a much larger store for another client who had over 1000 SKUs. Since Jack Rudy had only 5 SKUs, the key was to create a clean and easy shopping experience for customers.

The amount of extensions that WooCommerce has available also makes the development process much smoother. In this case we used a number of extensions. To integrate the payment gateway, we used the authorize.net extension.

One of our biggest priorities with this site was to make the fulfillment process much easier for the client. We integrated ShipStation for shipping fulfilment and used the WooCommerce extension. We also used the UPS extension to calculate the shipping cost for the customer. Lastly we installed shipment tracking so the customer could receiving their tracking number through email after the order was fulfilled. All very smooth and simple to integrate.

We created a custom filter using ajax in order to sort products by category on the purchase page. We also integrated the WooMobile extension so the client can see orders on his iPhone through an app.

We enabled the use of coupon codes, which was really easy to set up and does not require an extension. And the client can also easily manage inventory for all of their products.

We are focused on having a very consistent experience for every aspect of our digital products, so customers also receive branded and designed transactional emails, which are really easy to customize thanks to the preview section of the admin and also due to the fact that we can resend emails easily from the dashboard of an order.

It takes us on average less than 100 hours to build an e-commerce site with WooCommerce. Our development process typically starts with creating test products and working on each page as a customer would experience them. We do everything in test mode, developing locally, then working on a beta site and QA heavily on all browsers and devices.

Since the launch of the new Jack Rudy Cocktail Co. site traffic and sales have increased exponentially, our client is much happier due to the time we save them fulfilling orders, and we get lots of great compliments about the design and simplicity of the shopping experience.

  2. Extremely well done all. I love that your site really gets out of the way for the fantastic packaging/branding on the products themselves.

Clean, clear, and gets the job done!

Obviously happy to see it powered by WooCommerce & WordPress. 🙂

  3. One big UIX flaw I noticed was after adding an item to the cart, the notification at the top blocks the link to the Cart. It’s a little annoying as most likely the user wants to head to the cart after.

    Otherwise, awesome site! 🙂
