TipoType is a digital type foundry distributing quality typography for visual communication.
Founded in 2009 with its headquarters in Montevideo, Uruguay, TipoType are passionate about combining legibility with originality to create award-winning retail typefaces and custom type design for customers such as Google.
Montevidean locals Fernando Díaz, Vicente Lamónaca, and Martín Sommaruga came together to create contemporary typefaces as well as a platform for type designers to easily commercialize their work. Their foundry was the first to come out of Uruguay and, as such, offer special discounts for Uruguayans to enable them to buy software legally at a reasonable price.
My first typeface was the third ever to be conceived in my country — so I had no formal training. My country doesn’t have the typographic tradition of either Europe or the United States, so everything I’ve learned has been from my own research in old books, forums, videos, podcasts, events, and email exchanges.
– Fernando Díaz, co-founder
TipoType boasts a diverse team of designers from all over Latin America who all contribute to an extensive original font catalogue. There are many different licensing options available, such as desktop, print, web, and app.
