Starting January 31, 2027, Google requires main product images to be at least 500 × 500 pixels. Google for WooCommerce 3.9.6 checks your synced products and shows a notice on Marketing > Overview if any of them fall short, so you can fix them before they stop appearing in ads and free listings.
The check runs in the background and covers every synced product, including variations. Once you replace an image and save the product, the notice clears within about an hour. If you dismiss it, it comes back after seven days as long as small images remain. The notice links to Google’s image requirements so you know exactly what to upload.
There’s also a new prompt on the WooCommerce Analytics Overview page. When product revenue or items sold are down compared to the previous period, you’ll see a suggestion to reach more shoppers on Google: set up the plugin if you haven’t finished onboarding, or launch a Google Ads campaign if you have. You can dismiss it, and it stays dismissed.
Two settings are now on/off toggles instead of dropdowns or checkboxes. On the product edit screen, the Channel visibility box uses a single Google toggle to sync or stop syncing a product. In the plugin settings, enhanced conversions (added in 3.9.4) is a toggle too. This release also fixes Settings tabs that could end up hidden behind the WooCommerce header after you edited your store address or a paid ads campaign, a notification count that appeared on the wrong menu item after leaving Settings, and a conflict that could stop product sync on stores where another extension customizes product attributes.
How to get it
Update to Google for WooCommerce 3.9.6 in your WooCommerce dashboard. Everything here applies automatically. This version requires WooCommerce 11.0 or later, so update WooCommerce first if you’re on an older version. If the image notice appears, replace the flagged products’ main images with ones at least 500 × 500 pixels and save each product.
