You can share a WooCommerce.com subscription with another WooCommerce.com account. Sharing gives someone else the ability to use the extension โ including downloading it and receiving updates โ while you retain ownership and billing.
If you want to fully hand off ownership and billing responsibility to someone else, see Transfer a subscription instead.
When to share a subscription
↑ Back to topCommon scenarios for sharing a subscription include:
- Working with a developer or agency โ You want a developer to install, configure, or troubleshoot an extension on your site without giving them ownership of the subscription.
- Managing multiple sites on a multi-site subscription โ You purchased a 5-site or 25-site subscription and want to let other WooCommerce.com account holders use individual keys from the package.
- Retaining control while delegating access โ You want someone else to handle technical work on your store, but you want to keep control of billing and subscription management.

How to share a subscription
↑ Back to top- Log in to your WooCommerce.com account and go to My Subscriptions.
- Find the subscription you want to share and click the three-dot menu icon (โฎ) on the right.
- Select Share subscription from the menu.

- Enter the email address of the WooCommerce.com account you want to share the subscription with.
- Click the Share button to confirm.
The recipient receives a notification and can then download the extension and connect it to their site.
Note: The recipient must have a WooCommerce.com account associated with the email address you enter. If they don’t have one yet, they need to create an account first.
What the recipient will see:
↑ Back to top- On WooCommerce.com: The shared extension will appear in the recipientโs My Subscriptions list, labeled as shared, along with the email address of the person who shared it. The recipient can download the extension, review the product, or buy their own license from here. They can also choose โRemove from my accountโ if they no longer need the shared subscription.

- In WP Admin: Once the recipient has connected their site to WooCommerce.com, the shared subscription will also appear under WooCommerce > Extensions > My Subscriptions in their WP Admin dashboard. From there, the recipient can install, activate, and update the extension.

What the recipient can do with a shared subscription
↑ Back to topOnce a subscription is shared with another account, the recipient can:
- Download the extension from their own WooCommerce.com account.
- Receive updates for the extension.
- Connect the extension to their own site using one of the available keys.
The recipient cannot:
- Manage the subscription settings (e.g., enable or disable auto-renew).
- Transfer the subscription to another account.
- Share the subscription with additional accounts.
- Cancel the subscription.
All subscription management โ including renewals, cancellations, and further sharing โ remains with the original owner.
Sharing legacy multi-site subscriptions
↑ Back to topIf you have a legacy 5-site or 25-site subscription, sharing is the recommended way to give individual clients or collaborators access to specific keys from the package.
When you share a multi-site subscription:
- The recipient gains access to use one key from the subscription.
- You retain ownership and billing for the entire package.
- You can share different keys with different WooCommerce.com accounts.
This is particularly useful if you are an agency or freelancer who purchased a multi-site subscription and needs to distribute access across multiple client sites, each owned by a different WooCommerce.com account.
Note: It is not possible to split a multi-site subscription and transfer individual keys to separate accounts. Sharing is the only way to distribute access across multiple accounts for a single multi-site subscription. See Transfer a subscription for more details.
Revoking a shared subscription
↑ Back to topYou can remove someone’s access to a shared subscription at any time:
- Go to My Subscriptions on your WooCommerce.com account.
- Find the shared subscription.
- Click the three-dot menu icon (โฎ) on the right.
- Select the option to remove the shared user.
Once revoked, the recipient loses the ability to download, update, or receive support for the extension. The extension may remain installed on their site, but it will no longer receive updates or be covered by support through the shared subscription.
Sharing and site connections
↑ Back to topSharing a subscription does not connect the extension to the recipient’s site automatically. After the subscription is shared:
- The recipient logs in to their WooCommerce.com account.
- They download and install the extension on their site.
- They connect their site to their WooCommerce.com account (if not already connected) to activate the subscription key.
Each WooCommerce.com account can only be connected to one site at a time per subscription key. If the recipient already has a different extension connected to their site under their account, the shared subscription adds to their available extensions โ it does not replace anything.
Note: It is not possible to link two different WooCommerce.com accounts to the same site. Each site connects to one WooCommerce.com account.
