The Overview page provides an easy-to-navigate summary of your PayPal Payments setup after connecting your PayPal account. It lists the active features, configuration options, and tasks that need attention.

Things to Do Next

  • Enable Fastlane: To accelerate the guest checkout process for customers, enable PayPal’s Fastlane feature.
  • Register Domain for Apple Pay: Before accepting Apple Pay, you need to register your domain with PayPal. This step is required for Apple Pay functionality.

Features

On the Overview page, you’ll see a list of features, including:

  1. Save PayPal and Venmo:
    • Description: Securely save PayPal and Venmo payment methods for subscriptions or returning customers.
    • Action: Click Configure to adjust the settings.
  2. Advanced Credit and Debit Cards:
    • Description: Accept major credit and debit cards like Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover.
    • Action: Click Configure to manage the credit card settings.
  3. Alternative Payment Methods:
    • Description: Offer global or country-specific payment options for your customers.
    • Action: Click Configure to enable and manage additional payment methods.
  4. Google Pay:
    • Description: Allow customers to pay using Google Pay, available on mobile and web.
    • Action: Click Configure to enable and set up Google Pay.
  5. Apple Pay:
    • Description: Enable customers to pay using Apple Pay on iOS devices and the Safari browser.
    • Action: Click Domain Registration to register your domain with PayPal for Apple Pay.
  6. Pay Later Messaging:
    • Description: Enable messaging that informs customers they can pay later with PayPal. This option can help boost conversion rates and increase cart sizes.
    • Action: Click Configure to customize the Pay Later messaging for your store.

The Payment Methods page allows you to select and manage which payment options to offer to your customers. These options are grouped into sections such as PayPal Checkout, Online Card Payments, and Alternative Payment Methods.

Managing Payment Methods

To manage these payment methods, simply toggle the options on or off. Each activated payment method will be available at checkout for your customers, depending on their region and selected payment option. For each method, you can configure additional settings by clicking the Configure button.

Settings Page

This settings page allows you to configure various settings related to your PayPal integration. Below are the key areas you need to focus on:

1. Connection Status:

  • Connection Details:
    • This section displays your Merchant ID, Email Address, and Client ID.
    • Sandbox Mode: If you’re in the testing phase, it will display Sandbox to indicate that you’re using test credentials. You can disconnect the account at any time by clicking Disconnect.

2. Common Settings:

  • Invoice Prefix (Recommended):
    • Add a unique prefix to your invoice numbers for better tracking.
    • Example: INV-
  • Order Intent:
    • Choose between the following options:
      • Authorize Only: This option holds the payment authorization without charging the customer until you’re ready.
      • Capture Virtual-Only Orders: For virtual products, you can choose to capture payment immediately.
  • Save Payment Methods:
    • Save PayPal and Venmo: Enable this option to store customer PayPal or Venmo accounts for easier future payments.
    • Save Credit and Debit Cards: This option lets you securely store customers’ credit card details, which can help streamline future transactions, especially for subscription-based services.
  • Pay Now Experience:
    • This option allows customers to skip the Order Review page and directly proceed with payment, making the checkout process faster.

3. Expert Settings:

  • Troubleshooting:
    • Enable Logging to allow for detailed logging of any issues encountered during transactions. This data can assist with debugging and troubleshooting.
  • Webhooks:
    • Webhook Subscription: PayPal webhooks allow your store to receive updates about transactions and events. Ensure that the correct webhook URL is added for real-time payment updates.
    • You can see the events you’re subscribed to, such as:
      • Payment status updates (approved, denied, refunded, etc.)
      • Subscription changes (plan updated, subscription canceled, etc.)
    • Test Webhooks: You can also simulate webhook events to verify that they are working as expected.

4. Other Payment Method Settings:

  • Modify the Checkout Experience:
    • This section allows you to tweak the settings for alternative payment methods, including digital wallets like Apple Pay, Google Pay, and regional payment options like Bancontact or iDEAL.
  • Disable Specific Credit Cards:
    • If needed, you can restrict certain credit cards (e.g., Visa, Mastercard, etc.) by selecting the Disable Specific Credit Cards option and then choosing which ones to exclude from your payment options.

5. Finalize Settings:

  • After adjusting all settings, be sure to Save your changes. You can always return to this page for further adjustments.

Styling PayPal Smart Buttons

The Styling section allows you to customize the appearance of PayPal’s smart buttons and select where you want the buttons to appear on your WooCommerce store. You can personalize the look, feel, and functionality to better align with your store’s theme and improve the user experience.

1. Location

Choose where you would like the PayPal smart buttons to appear. Available options include:

  • Cart
  • Classic Checkout
  • Express Checkout
  • Mini Cart
  • Product Page

Enable the payment methods in your desired location(s) by checking the corresponding box next to the payment options.

2. Payment Methods

Select the payment methods you want to display as PayPal buttons. You can choose from the following options:

  • PayPal
  • Venmo
  • Pay Later

Enabling these payment methods will show the respective buttons during checkout, offering customers various ways to pay using PayPal services.

3. Shape

Choose the shape of the buttons:

  • Rectangle (Default option)
  • Pill (Rounded corners for a more modern look)

4. Button Label

Select the text you want to appear on the button. The default option is “Pay with PayPal,” but you can customize it to better match your store’s voice. For instance, you may choose to display:

  • Pay with PayPal
  • Buy Now
  • Pay Later

5. Button Color

  • Choose the color for the buttons. The default option is Gold, which is the standard color for PayPal buttons. However, you can explore other color options to match your store’s theme and branding.
  • Once you make your selections, you’ll be able to preview the changes in real-time.
