WooCommerce 10.8: Stable, faster, and ready for WordPress 7.0

WooCommerce 10.8 includes compatibility updates, performance improvements, and a handful of small fixes that shoppers will feel without being able to name. Plus it incorporates some broader design changes introduced in WordPress 7.0.

Update WordPress and WooCommerce together

WordPress 7.0 changes how form controls, buttons, and dropdowns look across the admin. We recommend updating at the same time, otherwise WooCommerce screens could look slightly off.

The admin now tells you when you’re offline

If you’ve ever been editing a product on spotty Wi-Fi, hit save, and then realized your changes never actually saved, this one’s for you.

WooCommerce 10.8 shows a banner when your browser loses its connection, and tells you clearly when a save fails because of network loss. A small feature that could save someone from a bad afternoon.

Your store is faster

This release continues the performance work from 10.7, spreading improvements across the storefront and checkout. Pages load with fewer database queries, stock reservation handles peak traffic better, and coupon loading is faster for stores with high-usage coupons. Previously, every coupon load pulled the entire usage history into memory.

None of this requires configuration. Update, and it’s done.

Small fixes shoppers will notice

A few shopper-facing issues got cleaned up in this release:

  • Product names with emojis no longer crash the cart and checkout.
  • Country validation errors now show country names instead of country codes (« United Kingdom » instead of « GB »). It’s a small thing that offers better clarity for shoppers.
  • Variable products now show their SKUs in product collections. Address autocomplete no longer appears after browser autofill at checkout. On mobile, the additional information tab on single product pages no longer cuts off content.

How to update

10.8 also patches a security issue affecting guest order data. If your store accepts guest checkouts, we recommend updating promptly.

Download directly from WordPress.org or update through your dashboard. Test on staging first; 10.8 includes four automatic database updates on install, and if you run a large store, backing up before you update is worth the few extra minutes.

If something looks different after updating, better or worse, let us know in the comments.
