Give customers one thing to do at a time

Your customer already decided to buy. Then they land on a page with twenty fields and a scrollbar, and the momentum drains away.

LWN Multi-Step Checkout for WooCommerce breaks that page into short, guided steps. One question at a time, with a visible finish line.

  • Turn one long form into a few short screens
  • Show customers exactly where they are and what is left
  • Keep every WooCommerce field, gateway, and tax rule working as it does now

Catch mistakes before the final step

Nothing kills a purchase like reaching the end and being sent back to fix a field you filled in four minutes ago.

Each step checks itself before the customer moves on, using WooCommerce’s own validation. A missing postcode gets flagged right there, not after the card details.

  • Errors appear on the step that caused them
  • Fields added by your theme or other extensions are checked too
  • Entered details are kept when customers move back and forward

Make it look like part of your store

The checkout should look like it belongs to you, not like a plugin bolted on top.

  • Three step indicator styles: numbered circles, breadcrumb arrows, or icons, with a live preview as you switch
  • Set every color from the dashboard, and see only the options your chosen style actually uses
  • Rename every step name, button, and message in plain text

Fit the checkout to how you actually sell

Selling downloads? The shipping step disappears on its own. Plenty of repeat customers? Give them a login step. Running promotions? Give coupon codes their own screen instead of a link buried at the top.

You decide which steps exist and what they are called. No code, no template files, no developer.

  • Turn any step on or off with a single checkbox
  • Keep shipping separate from billing, or combine them
  • Split order review from payment, or leave them together

Works with the WooCommerce you already have

This reorganizes your checkout. It does not rebuild it. Payment gateways, taxes, shipping rules, and order data are untouched, because everything runs through standard WooCommerce hooks.

Custom checkout fields added by other extensions stay in the step they belong to, and are validated with the rest of that step.

Built for the classic checkout

LWN Multi-Step Checkout works with the classic WooCommerce checkout, the one built with the [woocommerce_checkout] shortcode. It does not support the newer Checkout block.

Not sure which one your store uses? The extension checks after activation and tells you in your dashboard. Switching a page back to classic takes two clicks.

How to get started

  1. Buy, download, and install the extension on your store.
  2. Open WooCommerce > Settings > Multi-Step Checkout. It is already on.
  3. Tick the steps you want, pick a style, and save.
  4. Place a test order to see the flow your customers will get.

Changed your mind? Deactivate it and your checkout returns to the WooCommerce default straight away, with no cleanup.

Frequently asked questions

What does a multi-step checkout change for my customers?

One long form becomes short guided steps — Login, Billing, Shipping, Coupon, Review & Payment. Steps switch without a page reload, and progress survives a refresh.

Will it work with my theme?

Yes. It works with any theme following WooCommerce standards, with dedicated compatibility for 12 popular themes including Astra, GeneratePress, Storefront, Kadence, Blocksy, and OceanWP.

Can I match it to my store's branding?

Yes — three step-indicator designs, 25 individual colors, and 16 editable labels. No CSS required.

Does the checkout work on mobile?

Yes. The layout is fully responsive, and the step indicator scrolls horizontally on small screens.

Is it compatible with HPOS?

Yes. High-Performance Order Storage compatibility is formally declared.

Will it slow down my store?

Assets load only on the checkout page, with no third-party dependencies.

Does it support multilingual and RTL stores?

Yes — translation-ready with WPML compatibility, full RTL support, and an Arabic translation included

Does it work with the WooCommerce block checkout?

No — the classic [woocommerce_checkout] shortcode only. Block checkout support is planned for a future release.
