Absolute Antibody has a vision to make recombinant antibody technology accessible to all.
This is achieved through the use of proprietary vectors (pUV™), transient transfection of a high-yielding mammalian cell line (HEXpress™) and a universal purification platform.
Since their foundation in August 2012, Absolute Antibody have worked with 14 of the top 15 pharmaceutical companies by R&D spend, as well as hundreds of groups from biotechnology, diagnostics, and academia.
The team use a precisely defined DNA template allowing for reproducible and continuous manufacture. This is known as “recombinant” production, and is the only production method of a high enough quality to be used in therapeutic antibody manufacture.
When the time came to offer their antibody sequencing, manufacturing, and engineering services online, they turned to Oxfordshire-based agency, Electric Studio, and WooCommerce as the foundation for this integrated solution.
Struggling with a legacy system, and being increasingly dependant on third party systems to sync products from an in-house database, Absolute Antibody challenged Electric Studio to completely reinvent the website and product sync.
Electric Studio heavily customized WooCommerce to work with the unique product structure, making use of both grouped and variable products to form a three-tier product structure.
“A custom-built Laravel-powered sync tool pulls the existing product data for 50,000 products from an SQL Server via a hosted API, pushing this data into WordPress via the WooCommerce API.”
– Electric Studio, developers
It was important to improve on the speed of the previous sync tool, and a full sync was reduced from 8-12 hours to half the time at 4-6 hours.
More importantly, the team are now able to do an incremental sync that only synchronizes the updated product details. This means that the data can be synced multiple times a day, keeping the website fresh and up-to-date.
The Absolute Antibodies site is proof that WooCommerce can be used for complex, non standard products, and can be connected to existing product inventories for easier data handling.
