Page caching makes your store faster by serving saved copies of its pages instead of building each page from scratch on every visit.
But a cached page can hold only one currency. Without proper handling, a shopper who chose EUR could be served the USD copy that was saved for an earlier visitor – the wrong currency.
TIV Multi-currency for WooCommerce works with the supported caching plugins so that each visitor sees cached pages in their own currency – never in the currency saved for an earlier visitor.
Whatever cache you use, your multi-currency prices are always shown correctly. The only thing at stake is how much of your traffic is served from cache.
Supported caching plugins
↑ Back to topStarting from version 5, TIV Multi-currency integrates with the caching plugins below. Some can cache every currency; others cache a single currency and serve the rest fresh.
| Cache plugin | Caching |
|---|---|
| WP Rocket | Every currency |
| WP Super Cache | Every currency |
| W3 Total Cache | Every currency |
| Jetpack Boost | Every currency |
| Hummingbird | Every currency |
| WP-Optimize | Every currency |
| WP Fastest Cache | Single currency |
| Cache Enabler | Single currency |
- Every currency – each currency gets its own cached copy, so every visitor is served a fast, cached page in their own currency.
- Single currency – one currency (the Cache currency you choose) is served from cache; every other currency is still shown correctly, but its pages are built fresh each time.
What you see in the settings
↑ Back to topWhen a caching plugin is active, the WooCommerce โบ Settings โบ Multi-currency โบ Cache handling settings panel shows a short note about it. This is what the note looks like for each type.
A plugin that caches every currency (for example WP Super Cache):
โน๏ธ WP Super Cache is active
โ
Pages are cached separately for each currency.
Nothing to do – every currency is cached automatically.
A plugin that caches a single currency (for example Cache Enabler):
For single-currency plugins the panel also shows a Cache currency selector. Set it to the currency most of your visitors use – that is the one served from cache; every other currency is shown correctly but built fresh.
Other caches: CDN, hosting, or unknown plugins
↑ Back to topYou may run a caching layer that TIV Multi-currency does not integrate with – for example LiteSpeed Cache, a hosting-provider (server-level) cache, or a CDN that caches full HTML pages. When one is detected, the panel shows:
โ ๏ธ A cache plugin that is not fully supported is active.
Multi-currency still works, but caching is not optimal.
For best results, switch to a supported cache plugin – see the guide above.
Your multi-currency prices stay correct: TIV Multi-currency detects when the displayed currency would be wrong and corrects it automatically. The trade-off is efficiency – some pages are built fresh more often than necessary.
A CDN or hosting cache that serves full HTML pages sits in front of WordPress, so the plugin cannot adjust it. If you use one, either exclude your store pages from HTML caching or use one of the supported plugins above for per-currency caching.
Operating mode
↑ Back to topThe Cache handling settings panel has an Operating mode with two choices:
- Automatic (recommended) – TIV Multi-currency adjusts your caching plugin so every visitor sees the right currency. This is the default and the right choice for almost everyone. There is nothing else to set up (except the Cache currency, for single-currency plugins).
- Off – TIV Multi-currency does not change how your cache behaves. Use this only if you (or your developers) configure per-currency caching yourself.
In Off mode TIV Multi-currency stops adjusting your caching plugin and hands full control to your own setup. If that setup does not account for currency, cached pages may show a currency the visitor did not choose. Prices are still calculated correctly whenever a page is built fresh.
Cart, checkout and My account pages are never cached, in any mode – they are always built fresh, so totals and currency are always correct.
