Minimum Order Amount for WooCommerce

Set minimum and maximum order amounts in WooCommerce — for the whole store, or only when specific products, categories, user roles, payment methods, shipping methods or locations are in the cart. Every order that reaches you is one worth fulfilling.

Why small orders cost you money

Packing, shipping and payment fees cost roughly the same for every order. On a very small order — say $3 of products with $8 of fulfilment cost — you lose money before the parcel leaves. WooCommerce has no built-in way to require a minimum order amount, so these orders go through unchecked.

How it works

1. Choose your approach — one Global Restriction for the whole store, or individual rules with conditions.
2. Set the amounts and message — minimum, maximum and the text customers see.
3. Customers see the message in the cart and at checkout, and can complete the order once the amount is met.

Global Restriction

Set one minimum and maximum for every order in the store from WooCommerce → Settings → Minimum Order. When enabled, it overrides all rules — the simplest way to get started.

Rules with conditions

Create as many rules as you need under WooCommerce → Minimum Order Rules. Each rule has its own minimum, maximum, message and priority, and applies only when its conditions match.

• Products in cart and categories in cart
• User role
• Payment method and shipping method
• Shipping and billing country, state, city and zip code
• Equals to or Not Equals to, with multiple values per condition

Messages that help customers finish the order

Write your own message for each rule. Use {minimum_order_amount}, {maximum_order_amount} and {amount_remaining} to insert the exact values, for example: “Add {amount_remaining} more to continue to checkout.”

Maximum order amount

Every rule and the Global Restriction include a maximum as well as a minimum — useful for capping orders you cannot fulfil.

Rule priority

Give each rule a priority number. Lower values are processed first, so you control which rule takes effect.

Common setups

• Wholesale stores — a higher minimum for the Wholesale user role
• Specialty products — a minimum only when a certain category is in the cart
• Card fees — a minimum only for card payment methods
• International orders — a higher minimum for selected countries, states or zip codes
• Exempt a customer group — use User Role “Not Equals to”
• Free shipping alignment — match your minimum to your free shipping threshold
