A digital designer is rarely caught without a coffee, coca cola, or red bull on their desk. Largely due to the late night rushes before a client deadline, but according to Dr. Downie it also fuels creativity.
After teasing it only yesterday, we’ve cruised through the tweaks and fixes (few of course!) reported by our beta testers and are happy to release the Caffeinated theme today, less than 24 hours later.
Designed by our Lancaster-based friend Ryan Downie, originally for his personal portfolio site, and fueled by his passion for coffee, Caffeinated oozes Ryan’s signature design style – clean, long, sans-serif fonts, lots of texture and unique, grungy color palettes.
The home page showcases some introductory information about you, your latest portfolio item, your blog posts in a 4 column layout, and a widgetized footer space for you to customize.
The theme also comes with a custom template for the dedicated blog page of your site.

It has some innovative things going (in mixing in and presenting the content), which I was loosing in the Woothemes a while ago. But at first glance, this looks like things are getting back on track.

Are the columns can be integrated with the other themes? I won optimize, can I also use it there?

In particular, I would love to see a custom post type for invoices, with paypal integration, and another for creating proposals (that link should be a good reference for the details).
I would so love to see this turn into a theme focused for the “freelancer” niche!
Also, the gray shadows behind the orange text (for links) in the “white” style look a bit out of place.

Ah, sure – thanks for the reminder! However, this wasn’t quite a “new theme idea”, just some suggestions for an existing one. I did debate briefly if to comment here or at ideas…, but since the blog post seemed to solicit feedback, I thought I’ll be more relevant here 🙂
Why not just use one of the many amazing invoicing systems? What’s the benefit of having a toned-down version in WP?
Adii – are there any plugins you would like to see developed or improved for WordPress (that you may offer support for, like Gravity Forms and Scribe)?

I’m not sure if you had a chance to look at the client machine, but the features don’t look too toned down to me. Since I – and I daresay, many of us – don’t need all the bells and whistles of a complete invoicing system (and most of them incur more monthly fees), the idea of just a few nice custom post types to do job proposals and custom, pretty invoices is very appealing.
Also, the other benefit is the coolness of having-things-in-one-place. Many popular invoicing systems are not even self-hosted, and I find that downright depressing (possibly just me, though!). And may I add that it’s more value off your theme, too 🙂 If Sealight can have a custom “Pricing” template (IIRC), just pushing that a bit further in this theme makes it so much more.

On invoicing though; I don’t see the value of this at the moment, because as I mentioned there are other services that does one heck of a job of this already. The problem with releasing something “simple” is that users will inevitably want more and more features developed and we don’t want to compete in a space where we’re not pro’s.
And as a sidenote, it’s just my personal believe that WP shouldn’t try to do everything, even though it can do anything. Invoicing is simply one of those things that WP shouldn’t try to do imo.
Ah well, ok – I would trust your judgment more than my own 🙂
And you’re probably also right to not get carried away too much with WP, but I hope you will agree that it _is_ tempting 😀

Thats a good theme, and i thats NOT the caffeine talking (I rarely drink any of the above mentioned beverages)…
I like it and I’m going to use it for a project instead of a Graph Paper Press theme that I was working with. The GPP themes are more inspiring from an image/gallery/portfolio standpoint, but I like the Woo framework and support network. And I like the layout of the blog template.
However, I’m a standardization and customization freak, so I do wish that there were more typographic and color style controls baked into the admin panels so that changing to a Helvetica header type, for example, didn’t involve sorting through the style sheets. Having done this at least once with Canvas, it seems like the system is in place to make this type of customization easier.
I also could see Woo generating a typographic/minimalist option in the off-the-shelf style sheets. In this case, you generated a White style, but it contains the idiosyncratic header and footer images, along with the Read More buttons, which seem too big on the page. I think it’s great work though, thanks!
