Take a trip to the Resort

resort_responsive

Today, we’re proud to announce the latest addition to the WooThemes theme catalog. With a layout that has proven itself time and again online, as well as an array of helpful and informative features… ladies and gentlemen, meet Resort.

Meet Resort

In all business, brick-and-mortar or otherwise, the most important aspects are a keen idea and customers to purchase it. The link between these two is contact.

Resort includes several features to help your visitors to contact you easily and quickly using a variety of contact methods, directly available on the homepage (you can even display your telephone number directly in the header area). Designed by Chris Rowe, Resort takes a clean and well-structured approach to displaying your content and helping your visitors and potential customers to learn more about you and your business. With the store functionality powered by WooCommerce, the entire WooCommerce extensions library is also at your disposal to take your online store to the next level.

Galleries, post-formatted

Resort includes native support for the “gallery” post format, bundled into WordPress. Simply create your blog post, set the “gallery” post format, upload your images (set one as the featured image for the gallery “cover image”) and add a “gallery” shortcode into your content. Your images galleries will then display neatly on the homepage, as well as in line with your other blog posts.

Not just for business

While Resort is primarily a business-focussed theme, the design can be used for anything from an online store to your own personal branded nameplate website. With styling support for our Features and Testimonials plugins, as well as a “Blog” and a “Business” page template, your own design is just a few small tweaks away in the “Theme Options” section.

Create quick and simple alternate styles

Customising your copy of “Resort” is important to us. With this in mind, no expense has been spared to ensure ease of use and customisation of the theme with a few clicks and your custom eye-catching imagery. Alternate colour styles have also been included, to quickly provide a unique feel on your website. These alternate styles showcase it’s flexibility with each CSS file being only a few lines of extra styling.

  3. At first glance, I love it, having the phone number call to action at the top right is a great addition for people who don’t know how to code.

The Hero Feature is cool, a great place to add a Lead Magnet 🙂

    • The phone number doesn’t seem to be Click To Call, can this be changed? This is a must have for someone viewing on a smartphone. Considering this theme is responsive for mobiles, it really is a no brainer! Hope this can be done within the control panel, if not a simple CSS fix perhaps?

  5. The phone feature/widget in the top right is so commonly required and im very glad its included – would be nice to see such a feature become standard in Canvas even 😉

  7. I’am a big fan of Woothemes, but it’s time to spice things up a bit. Lots of brilliant themes out there on themeforest and such. I find the themes from woo to be lacking behind so to speak.

    • Hey Marien,

We really appreciate the support! Can you tell us ways in which you think we can spice up our themes?

We’re curious to hear and are all ears, thanks!

      • Last year there was no WOW factor in woothemes. Maybe with new WordPress version is time for WOW/WOO personal theme focused on custom types. ThemeForest is goog place for inspiration with new trends.

      • – Fixed width themes
        – Clean and simple themes
        – Gorgeous dedicated shop themes, and not so much a blog/corporate theme
        – crisper lines, less rounded.

        just some personal notes.

I guess you could add a questionnaire, or a poll for woo customers to see what they feel and get a good idea what the community wants.

      • Almost all WooThemes have the logo/menu area at the top, with the logo on the left and the menu on the right. And almost everything is roundish and a bit “fat”. Not so much with a really slim, crisp, ultra modern feel. This is very much a style thing, and most theme designers have their style. Nowadays it’s pretty easy to spot a stock WooThemes theme from afar (The One Pager is a nice departure). Yes, I can change things up like I have for clients, but it’s always nice when you don’t have to double the budget to do a ton of CSS-ifying. 🙂

  8. Another great theme release. Still no portfolio template?

    Toni
    April 16, 2013
    • Hey Toni,

Our plan is to create a Portfolio plugin, in due time. With that we can surely, and easily, add a proper way to create a portfolio page.

You can, of course, use any other plugin to add a Portfolio to Resort for the time being as well.

      • Speaking of a Portfolio, the one in Canvas could be vastly improved by removing the text underneath the image in the Portfolio grid. Instead of the magnifying glass on hover, show the title. And allow the featured image that shows up in the grid NOT be shown on the individual portfolio item. And don’t hide several images attached to a portfolio item, giving no clue to a visitor how many images are in the item. I’ve had to ditch Canvas in favor of another theme shop because of the lack of portfolio flexibility. Another great idea that many Themeforest portfolio themes have is dynamic repositioning/show/hide/ of the portfolio grid items upon selection of the portfolio group/gallery. Some do it better than others. Simple movement is better than overly fancy effects.

  9. Does this theme slider fully support oEmbed, or is it the same as all the other companies, just youtube, vimeo?

I’m looking everywhere for a decent theme with woocommerce support that also has a slider supporting oEmbed for video and not just the standard youtube, vimeo, etc support… Is this currently possible?

*I have properly added oEmbed additional sources to WordPress so my url embeds work perfectly in posts/pages.

  10. btw, can you guys add a support forum for Resort?

    Thnx

    shwn
    April 16, 2013
    • We are very unlikely to ever develop a support forum plugin, as there are many that already exist that you could integrate into Resort.

I’d recommend checking out a plugin like bbPress. It has a healthy community around it and can give you almost any sort of functionality you’d want for a support forum.

      Ryan Ray
      April 17, 2013
      • I am pretty sure Shwn was referring to Woo Support and adding a forum for the new theme called Resort.

  11. Very nice.

2 quick questions. Is it a responsive theme – couldn’t see from the write-up? Secondly, does this one have the sidebar ability on a front page next to the widgitised area ?

    Thanks

    • Hey Fred,

Just to be for sure, you visited the demo directly here? – http://demo2.woothemes.com/resort/

The demo switcher often causes issues with responsiveness.

      Ryan Ray
      April 17, 2013
      • I know most theme shops use a demo switcher, but I always get rid of it immediately. Since it causes problems, interferes with the look of the theme, and is generally a bit of an annoyance, why not just dynamite it? 🙂

        nightrider
        April 18, 2013
      • Yes I always remove the demo switcher and test it that way. That is the URL i used yes.

  15. WooThemes used to put out some of the best WordPress themes, by far. Now they just release themes that look like themes you can get anywhere else. Hopefully the refocusing you guys are doing will allow you to be more creative and come up with some truly unique themes in the future.

  17. Looks great!
I love the phone number idea!
I’m wondering why you went back to the non-descript menu logo in the responsive phone view?
Having a bar with the word “Navigation” show instead is so much more user-friendly

  18. Love the theme. Perfect for a project I just started! I set up a quick sample site for a client and it appears that with Woo Slider enabled the homepage slider disappears after browsing to the shop and back again! Using Chrome. Doesn’t appear to happen in other browsers. Might be a minor bug needs fixing. Or could be me…

  19. Just downloaded the theme. This is just what I have been looking for! Love the flexibility that you have built in and having a responsive theme. It’s great that you can move things around in your new themes and I just LOVE the features idea – allows me to connect a feature to a page, a post or another website – simple but awesome.

Really pleased you have brought back sliders and having a widgetised sidebar.

Looking forward to moving it to my main site

    Thanks

  20. Actually, that bug I thought I solved a few posts back re the slider disappearing after browsing away from the homepage and back again isn’t actually resolved. Happening in all browsers whether wooslider is enabled or not. Only way to resolve it is to re-save all the slides for the chosen slide group and refresh the homepage.

  21. Are the sliders used by woothemes EVER going to support oEmbed in the video inputs boxes?

This is so frustrating that I can easily add a video url anywhere in my site and it just plain works, EXCEPT for the sliders.

Why would you make me ask my clients to leave their website to go and get the embed code from another website, just to add video to a slider, when all they have to do is add a url virtually anywhere else in the theme and it just works….

Now seems the perfect time to solve this problem as WordPress 3.6 focuses so much on media and making it easier to use. Heck, even the new video post-format input box supports oEmbed, so the LAST PROBLEM AREA for this is still the woothemes sliders…

I request this in the support ticket area and I get the new Woo standard answer…. beyond the scope of support, go figure….

    Frustrated….
