On the 9th of February 2010, a new theme was released into the wide world of WordPress. While seemingly an every day occurrence, little did we know the impact this theme would make. Crafted by Magnus Jepson, co-founder of WooThemes, Canvas version 1.0 was posted for sale on WooThemes.com.
Now in 2014, Canvas has grown in popularity in leaps and bounds, with developers and website beginners alike, offering a framework for advanced development, coupled with an intuitive configuration screen, for customising the design of your Canvas theme without touching any code.
Ladies and gentlemen, Canvas has had twins! Meet Uno and Duo, our first two Canvas child themes.
Uno
The first of our Canvas child themes, Uno is aimed at helping you to engage with your customers, by showcasing the products you are most proud of in your store. With a large hero image and text area, Uno makes it really easy for you to welcome your customers to your online store.

When are these themes available?
Both Uno and Duo are available for purchase right now from our catalog. Please note, a copy of Canvas is required in order to run either theme, so please be sure you’ve got your copy of Canvas as well.
If you’ve purchase the All Themes Package, you don’t need to purchase these themes. They’re waiting for you in your downloads section.
What’s next for Canvas?
Being a part of Canvas’ evolution is a very special place to be. We’re glad to share this place with you all. In 2014, Canvas is responsive, WooCommerce compatible, includes a collection of useful page templates, a neat mobile navigation menu and a myriad of other features including full width header and footer sections (two of my favourite settings). Today marks the next evolution in the Canvas product line.

Like the Uno demo alot, only suggestion is the dropdown cart on the Primary Nav needs to have it point of focus to the left and not out to the right for those of us who do not have the massive pixel resolution screens! 😉 right now the dropdown cart is hidden by the browser!
We are aware of this issue, it will be fixed in Canvas 5.8.2.

A few things with the Uno demo.
Check the shortcode styles for buttons. The light green text on colored buttons isn’t pleasant.
Also, I’m not seeing sidebars in any of the layouts.

Thanks for pointing out the button text issue on the shortcodes. I’ve reported an issue via Git for this now. Regarding the sidebars, I can see them on individual page templates. Can you please open a ticket with us if you think we should look into something further here?

I’m seeing the same: there’s a space for the sidebars, but it’s as if no widgets have been placed in them. Would be nice to see what they look like with widgets.
Looks great and it will be neat to see how you might approach creating some sites that are more catered toward service or local businesses where call to action and focus on sales message or benefits is the key rather than shop or portfolio sites with big sliders.
Excellent! I’ve been wanting to add more child themes and put them up for sale, but just haven’t gotten around to it–this is inspiring knowing that I won’t be alone! I have a free child theme available for download (that has been downloaded several hundred times with pretty much zero promotion, kinda cool) and I named it Kaapstad … thought you South Africans would get a kick out of that.
But I’d LOVE a Canvas Child Theme marketplace! Great job on the child themes, WOO team!

Just grabbed Uno. It’s actually interesting to see the way Woo do Child themes. I’ve used them for a while but this gives me a “best practice” of sorts. Certainly picked up a few tips from looking at the themes files on how to correctly implement themes changes in the functions file etc.

Really love the Uno theme – it’s actually very similar to the child theme I developed and am currently using for http://worshiptutorials.com/.
I purchased the theme and am trying it out on a test site, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to change the color of the primary navigation and buttons – it’s green no matter what I change in the back-end options. I know I can do it via CSS, but I’m just curious if that’s a bug or if I’m supposed to be able to change it via the options panel.

Go to Theme Options > Uno. Disable the “Use Child Theme Custom Overrides” option and you should be able to set your own colours and typography.

Hi guys
What would be the best way to customise a child theme but not mess with the files too much so updating is easy? Is it just a case of remembering your changes?
I love Duo, the product page & documentation do not do it justice. I’m having a devil of a time configuring a home page with anything besides the Hero message. Should the Woo component widgets work? Nothing appears on the home page if I put them into either the Homepage area or the “Widgets” Page Template area. The documentation is, I assume, a work-in-progress.
Also, the home page layout is broken using the Business template in Chrome.
This Duo theme suits me just perfect, but have a questions. Besides my service and selling my time as a product, also have items for sale, hows is the integration in this case in Duo?
