Local payment methods

By default, WooPayments accepts payments via credit and debit cards. If you would like to add some region-specific / local payment methods to your checkout, it’s also possible to enable the following:

  • Alipay
  • Bancontact
  • EPS
  • GrabPay
  • iDEAL | Wero

NOTE: The fees for these methods differ from the standard card fees. Please see our fees page for a full list of our the fees associated with each one. Also keep in mind that accepting payments in a currency for which you do not have a bank account added can result in currency conversion fees.

Enabling local payment methods

To enable local payment methods:

  1. Go to Payments > Settings.
  2. Scroll down to the Advanced settings section.
  3. Ensure the Enable multi-currency box is checked.
    • This is necessary because, as noted below, local payments methods require a specific currency before customers can use them. For more information on the multi-currency setting, please see this document.
  4. Click the Save Changes button at the bottom of the page.
  5. Refresh the page.
  6. Scroll down to the Payments accepted on checkout section.
  7. Enable the methods you want to offer in checkout.
  8. Click the Save Changes button at the bottom of the page.

Payment methods can be disabled by unchecking their box and saving the settings.

What if a payment method can’t be enabled?

Depending on your account status, certain payment methods may be unavailable, and you’ll be asked to contact support to enable them. When contacting our staff, please make sure to include the name of the payment method you want to enable.

It might also help to make sure that your account isn’t restricted or missing any information, since that can affect payment method availability as well.

Alipay and WeChat Pay additional requirements

Before enabling Alipay or WeChat Pay, make sure your website is complete, publicly accessible, and accurately reflects the products or services you offer. Incomplete or placeholder sites are a common reason for rejection during the approval process. This includes:

  • Your site must be live and not under construction or password-protected.
  • All listed products or services should be visible and clearly described.

While not an explicit requirement, we recommend that important business details — such as your company name, contact info, and policies — are easy to find.

This requirement comes from Alipay and WeChat Pay’s review process and applies to all merchants. Enabling these payment methods before your website is ready may result in approval delays or even rejection.

Alipay and WeChat Pay prohibited businesses

In addition to our general list of prohibited and restricted products, Alipay and WeChat Pay each maintain their own restrictions on business types. If your business falls into one of the prohibited categories below, your request to enable the payment method will be rejected, and re-applying will not change the outcome.

Alipay prohibited business types include, but are not limited to:

  • Donations and crowdfunding
  • Financial intermediation services, including loans, pawnbroking, and foreign exchange
  • Debt collection services
  • Surrogacy services
  • Sale of real estate
  • Superstition services (e.g. feng shui, fortune-telling, tarot)

WeChat Pay prohibited business types include, but are not limited to:

  • Charitable and social service organizations
  • Crowdfunding
  • Religious organizations, websites, and publications
  • Civic, social, and fraternal associations
  • Political organizations
  • Professional services such as consulting, legal, accounting, and bookkeeping
  • Real estate services
  • Immigration services
  • Dating and chat platforms

The full prohibited business lists can be found in the Alipay Terms of Service and in the Weixin Pay Proper Use Rules, respectively.

If you are unsure whether your business is eligible, please contact our support team before enabling these payment methods.

Alipay and WeChat Pay approval delays

Alipay and WeChat Pay are subject to approval delays of up to five business days after being enabled in WooPayments. During this time, these payment methods may not appear at checkout, even if they are turned on in your settings.

This delay is part of the standard onboarding process and applies to all eligible accounts. If Alipay or WeChat Pay are still not available five business days after either payment method is enabled, please contact support so we can help look into it.

iDEAL | Wero additional requirements

If your business is based in the Netherlands, iDEAL | Wero requires that your website displays your KVK number on file with the Chamber of Commerce.

If you use iDEAL | Wero but are based outside the Netherlands, your website must display your company registration number with the equivalent local official body.

Przelewy24 (P24) additional requirements

P24 is unavailable to new merchant accounts! As of August 17, 2026, P24 can no longer be enabled on any WooPayments account that is not already using it. This comes directly from Przelewy24 themselves. There are no exceptions.

If Przelewy24 is already active on your account, you can continue using it provided that you meet the following set of criteria:

  • Your business type must be a company.
    • As of August 6, 2026, Przelewy24 no longer supports individual business types, including sole proprietorships, in any country. This applies regardless of whether you have a valid tax ID or NIP.
  • A valid tax ID, VAT ID, or NIP (for Polish entities) in your Stripe Express account.
  • A publicly accessible website with all of the following:
    • A list of the products and services you sell and their prices.
    • Your company address, tax number, and registration number.
    • Refund and privacy policies.
  • An MCC that is not one of the prohibited MCCs listed below.

If you do not meet these criteria, your ability to accept P24 payments may be removed without warning at any time. P24 reviews merchants on an ongoing basis, not just when you first activate it. This means that your access might be revoked even if you’ve accepted P24 payments successfully in the past.

When access to P24 payments is revoked, orders using it will fail at checkout with an authentication error rather than P24 simply being disabled in your settings. Sadly this is not something that we (WooPayments/Automattic) can control.

If your P24 payments have started failing unexpectedly, contact our support team.

Przelewy24 (P24) prohibited businesses

In addition to our general list of prohibited or restricted products, businesses using the following MCCs are not eligible to use Przelewy24. (If you would like to change your MCC to a different one, please see this document.)
