Building sites with the content builder

Written by Mark Forrester on February 28, 2011 Blog.

Shawn, our screencasting guru, has been hard at work creating the third video tutorial dedicated to Listings – our directory based theme with a powerful content builder.

In this tutorial, that we believe deserves it’s own blog post, Shawn takes us through the easy process of building a directory site of musical bands. All thanks to the power of the content builder, that makes it easy to create custom post types, taxonomies, and custom fields.

Sounds too geeky and technical for you? It’s really not. Watch, enjoy and think of the possibilities!

Is this content builder going to work in other themes too? This would be really great news.

Actually, the more I think about it, the more I agree w/ the poster below about keeping it unique to Listings w/o jacking up tue price of the other themes… though maybe some child themes could be in order here…

Yeah at this stage porting it to other themes would require extra support which will raise the price of those themes.

Already one child theme for Listings and I believe one more in the pipeline.

What makes the listings theme unique and great is the Content Builder.

If content builder is made a feature of Canvas who would buy Listings theme ? I would not.

Let Content Builder be a feature of Listings.

ok… this content builder seems to be a big tool people want for future themes and I guess you woo-guys are already thinking if you want to make this to a key element in other themes too. I hope so.

Hi. Can you guys make the file downloadable on Vimeo. That way I can follow along offline as I try and build my own directory.

It currently says sorry, this file is not available for download. Or would that incur some costs for you? If it will then its Ok.

Love this. It is like the More Types, More Fields and More Taxonomies plugins combined on steroids. Great work as usual guys.

Any plans to sell as a stand-a-lone plugin?

Agree. This should be a stand alone plugin. I would pay for that. The theme design is so incredible poor I can’t buy it. Unless I buy it for the code and add it too a better looking theme design.

      Stand alone plugin?

I think this is the best video to illustrate the custom post types functionality of WordPress. Well made video. Thanks.
