Multilingual and Multi-Currency Product Feeds

Overview

The Multilingual and Multi-Currency Product Feeds feature lets you specify which languages and currencies are applicable to each Market. Then, the plugin automatically builds and syncs separate Product Feeds in the Google Merchant Center for every country, language and currency combination.

This means that shoppers in France see prices in euros and product information in French. Shoppers in Belgium can see the same products in Dutch, French, or German.

Important: Google for WooCommerce does not translate your products or configure currencies. You must set those up using supported plugins.

Supported Plugins

This feature reads languages and currencies created by other plugins

Here are the supported extensions:

  • For languages: WPML must be installed, active, and used to translate your products into the languages you want to target.
  • For currencies: WooCommerce Multilingual & Multicurrency (the WPML companion plugin) must be installed, active, and have multi-currency mode turned on.

If only a supported multi-language extension is installed, but not a multi-currency one, then it won’t be possible to define a different currency per market.

Get started

Requirements:

  • Google for WooCommerce is installed, and your Google Merchant Center account is connected. If you haven’t done this yet, see Get Started with Google for WooCommerce.
  • A supported multilingual and multi-currency plugin is installed.
  • Your WooCommerce shipping settings are configured using either Sync from WooCommerce or Set up in Google Merchant Center. See Shipping below.

Setup :

Navigate to Marketing > Google for WooCommerce > Markets to start configuring your markets.

You will define each country you sell to and the languages and currencies each country supports.

There are two distinct categories for markets:

  • The Primary Market, which will be the market that has the most usual languages/currencies/shipping configuration. New markets that have the exact same configuration as the Primary Market will be added directly to the Primary Market.
  • Individual markets, which will be markets with a unique languages/currencies/shipping configuration.

To set up a new market:

  • Click Add Market and select the country you are targeting.
  • Choose the languages and currencies that apply to this country. You can select multiple, and each combination becomes a separate feed. For example, configuring Belgium with Dutch, French, and German in euros produces three feeds in the background.
  • Enter delivery times per Market, if required.
  • Save the market.

Important: Only the products that are translated in the specific market’s language will be part of the market’s Product Feed. For example, if a store has 20 products in English, but only 10 translated to French, any Product Feed in French will only include these 10 products.

To edit an existing market:

  • Click on the Edit button that appears next to each market.
  • Change the market’s configuration.
  • Save the updated market.

To delete an existing market:

  • Click on the actions menu next to each market.
  • Click ‘Delete’.

When deleting a market, its data sources in Merchant Center are emptied of products and stop receiving updates.

Important: It is not possible to delete the Primary Market.

A note on shipping and taxes

Google requires that shipping costs be quoted in the same currency as the product price. If a product and its shipping cost use different currencies, Google will disapprove the product.

You configure your shipping settings once for your whole store at Marketing > Google for WooCommerce > Settings > Shipping rates. When using a supported multi-currency plugin, there are two available options:

  • Sync from WooCommerce. The plugin reads your WooCommerce shipping costs and automatically converts costs based on the exchange rate of your currencies, or fetches the right cost per currency, if fixed costs per currency have been set up. Delivery times are set per Market on the Markets page.
  • Set up in Google Merchant Center. The plugin sends no shipping data. You create a shipping service for each currency manually inside your Merchant Center account.

Tax handling follows the country of the Market, using your existing WooCommerce tax settings.

For Markets targeting the United States or Canada, prices are sent to Google excluding tax, matching how shoppers in those markets expect prices to be displayed.

For all other countries, the plugin adds tax to the price using the WooCommerce tax rates you have configured for that country, calculated on the converted price for that market’s currency.
