Selling Membership Subscriptions

We are going to set up a subscription which grants membership to a group named Mystery. Our example illustrates the case where members subscribe to receiving a monthly gift box. While they are members of the related group, they also get access to exclusive content which is accessible only to members of the Mystery group.

You must have WooCommerce Subscriptions in addition to the Groups Integration for WooCommerce installed.

This is how our subscription is presented to our customers …

The third example in the following video shows how this subscription product is created. We outline the important parts below.

Adding the new Subscription Product

Go to Products > Add new product and choose Simple Subscription as the product type. Our subscription involves the delivery of a physical product, so we do not check the Virtual or Downloadable options.

For our example, we set a subscription price of $9.99 on a monthly basis in the General tab of the Product data.

In the Groups tab of the Product data, we choose the Mystery group. Remember to create that group first so you can choose it here.

Now we can go ahead and publish the new product. When a customer subscribes to this product, the account becomes a member of the Mystery group as soon as the subscription is activated.
