The Currency Converter Widget extension by Kestrel is a WordPress plugin that provides you with the ability to display your store prices in the currency of the customer’s choice.
To obtain the exchange rates, it uses different providers like Open Exchange Rates or our own service, Kestrel Exchange Rates.
Disclaimer: This document only refers to the Privacy Policy related to the WordPress Plugin and the Kestrel Exchange Rates service. If you want to know more about the Privacy Policy of the platform Open Exchange Rates, visit this page.
Information Collection and Storage
↑ Back to topWe do not collect or store any of your Open Exchange Rates login information. As the plugin is installed on your website, any information is stored within your website’s database. Our plugin stores your Open Exchange Rates App ID for use in retrieving the exchange rates by making a request to its API. It also temporarily stores the raw JSON response received from this API to use in the widget included with this plugin. The plugin does not collect any data from the visitors to your website.
As an alternative to Open Exchange Rates, we include our own service Kestrel Exchange Rates. This service is used in case you do not provide any App ID value on the plugin settings page.
When using the Kestrel Exchange Rates service, we collect basic log information on each API request. This includes the connection information, such as browser type and version, operating system, mobile platform, and other technical identifiers. The date, time, user agent, referrer URL, and any relevant data submitted by your request – like your store URL. We don’t collect your IP address. The collected data is only for statistical purposes and to monitor the proper functioning of our service.
Information the Plugin Displays
↑ Back to topThe plugin optionally displays a widget in any of the widget areas of your website with a list of currencies of your choice to let customers see the store prices in their local currency.
Usage of Data
The plugin uses the collected data from the exchange rates service to change the prices of your store on the fly when the customer selects a different currency in the widget mentioned above. The price changes are visual only to help customers have a reference of the prices in their local currency. All transactions are made with the currency defined in your store settings.
Sharing of Data
↑ Back to topWe will not share your data with any third parties under any circumstances.
Removal of Stored Data
↑ Back to topWhen the plugin is removed from your website the saved data is deleted from your database, unless you choose to have it remain by enabling the relevant setting in the plugin.
Changes to this Policy
↑ Back to topWe may revise this Privacy Policy in the future. If a change is made to this policy that we believe is material then we will update this page. By continuing to use the plugin after those changes become effective, you agree to be bound by the revised Privacy Policy.
