Preview Snapchat settings with sandbox mode

Use sandbox mode on a test site to inspect the Snapchat for WooCommerce settings without connecting real WordPress.com or Snapchat accounts. The extension supplies example account details and disables tracking and product synchronization.

Note:

This is a Developer level doc. If you are unfamiliar working with code and resolving potential conflicts, we recommend you work with a Woo Agency Partner for larger projects, or find a WooCommerce developer on Codeable for smaller customizations. We are unable to provide support for customizations under our Support Policy.

Before you begin

You need:

  • A test WordPress site with Snapchat for WooCommerce 1.0.6 or later installed and active.
  • The WordPress, WooCommerce, and PHP versions required by your installed extension. Version 1.0.7 requires WordPress 6.9+, WooCommerce 10.9+, and PHP 7.4+.
  • WP-CLI access to that site and an administrator account for viewing the settings.

Warning:

Use a test site. Enabling sandbox mode on a connected production store stops this extension’s tracking and product synchronization while it remains enabled.

Enable sandbox mode

In a terminal, change to the test site’s WordPress directory. Confirm you’re targeting the intended site:

wp option get siteurl
wp plugin get snapchat-for-woocommerce --field=version

Enable sandbox mode:

wp option update snapchat_sandbox_mode yes

In the WordPress dashboard, go to Marketing > Snapchat. Reload the page if it was already open.

The settings page displays Snapchat sandbox mode is active. The connected-account details are simulated; they don’t establish a real WordPress.com or Snapchat connection.

What you can check

You can inspect the Product Catalog, Track Conversions, and Manage Snapchat Connection sections. You can change the conversion-tracking and customer-data checkboxes to preview their settings. Those values are stored separately from their live equivalents.

Sandbox mode disables:

  • Snap Pixel and Conversions API tracking.
  • Product-feed synchronization and CSV generation.
  • Account connection, switching, and disconnection actions.
  • The extension’s usage-event tracking.

It doesn’t test authentication, event delivery, or whether products reach a real Snapchat catalog. Other plugins and services on the site aren’t covered by this extension’s sandbox controls.

Disable sandbox mode

In the same test site’s WordPress directory, run:

wp option update snapchat_sandbox_mode no

Reload Marketing > Snapchat and confirm the sandbox notice has disappeared.

The extension returns to its existing connection state and live settings. If it wasn’t connected before the preview, complete the normal connection process before testing tracking or catalog synchronization. Previewing settings doesn’t connect an account or copy the sandbox values into the live settings.

If the preview doesn’t appear

Confirm that the extension is active, its version is 1.0.6 or later, and WP-CLI is targeting the same WordPress site as your browser. Check the option value:

wp option get snapchat_sandbox_mode

An enabled preview uses yes. If the option doesn’t exist, sandbox mode is disabled by default. Reload the settings page after enabling it.
