EU AI Label for WooCommerce lets you tell shoppers which of your product images involved AI. You choose a disclosure for each image, and a small badge appears on that image, in the shopper’s language, everywhere it is shown in your store. Every change you make is recorded.
Nothing is detected or guessed. You decide, image by image.
Installation
↑ Back to top- Install and activate WooCommerce if you have not already.
- Purchase EU AI Label for WooCommerce from the Woo Marketplace.
- In your store, go to Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin, or install it directly from your WooCommerce.com account.
- Activate EU AI Label for WooCommerce.
- Connect your store to your WooCommerce.com account when prompted, so you receive updates and support.
Requirements: WordPress 6.9 or newer, WooCommerce 10.8 or newer, PHP 7.4 or newer.
Labeling your first image
↑ Back to top- Edit any product.
- Open the Product data panel and select the AI image labels tab.
- Every image the product uses is listed: the main product image, each gallery image, and on a variable product each variation’s own image.
- Pick an AI label for each image.
- Click Update on the product.
Visit the product on your storefront. Labeled images now carry a badge.
If an image is missing from the list, save the product once. The list is built when the product editor loads, so images added during the current session appear after a save.
Choosing the right label
↑ Back to top| Label | Use it when |
|---|---|
| AI generated | The image was created by AI rather than photographed. |
| AI modified | You started with a real photograph and AI altered it. |
| AI (unspecified) | AI was involved, but you are not stating whether the image was generated or modified. Use this when a supplier sent you the image and you do not know its history. |
| No AI | No AI was involved. This is the default and shows no badge. |
Only one label applies to an image at a time. Because labels belong to the image rather than to the product, an image reused across several products carries the same disclosure everywhere — you only set it once.
Adding how it was altered
↑ Back to topUnder each image you can tick any of six alteration details:
- Background removed
- Color modified
- Lighting adjusted
- Objects added or removed
- Retouched (skin or blemishes)
- Resolution enhanced (upscaled)
These appear to shoppers in a small tooltip on the badge. They are entirely optional — a disclosure is complete without them — and they are translated along with everything else.
Working from the Media Library
↑ Back to topOne image at a time. Go to Media, open any image, and set its AI label in the attachment details. The AI Label column in list view shows what each image currently carries.
Many images at once. In Media, select several images, choose an AI label from the bulk actions menu, and apply. This works in both list and grid view, and is the fastest way to label a catalog that already has its imagery in place.
Designing the badge
↑ Back to topGo to Settings > EU AI Label > Label Studio. You can set a quick style preset, background and text color, a border radius from square corners to a full pill, one of three sizes, any of the four image corners, and an optional Sparkles, AI pen or Robot icon.
The live preview shows the result over a sample product image and reports the text-to-background contrast ratio, telling you whether it passes WCAG AA. Keeping it passing is what makes the badge readable for everyone.
Two things stay fixed on purpose. Badge text is not editable, because it is translated into seven languages and letting it be overwritten would break that. The compact AI mark stays circular and has no icon, because it is used for the AI (unspecified) label where there is no room for text.
If you do not choose custom colors, the badge picks a light or dark variant automatically based on the image behind it, so it stays readable on both bright and dark photography.
Moving disclosures between stores
↑ Back to topDisclosures travel with WooCommerce’s own product CSV.
To export: go to Products > All Products > Export. The file gains two columns, AI disclosure and AI alterations. Values line up with the Images column: the first value is the main product image, then each gallery image in order. Variations export as their own rows with their own values.
To import: go to Products > All Products > Import and upload the file. The two columns are recognised automatically. If your column headers were renamed, map them by hand on the mapping screen.
Two behaviours are worth knowing. An empty value leaves that image’s existing disclosure alone rather than clearing it, so a partially filled spreadsheet cannot wipe your work. And because values are matched by position, reordering a product’s gallery between export and import will shift which image gets which disclosure.
Reviewing what changed
↑ Back to topSettings > EU AI Label > Audit log lists every disclosure change in four columns: Date (site time), File, Change, and Changed by.
The log is sealed with a hash chain. If a record is edited or deleted directly in the database, the page reports an integrity failure and names the entry where the chain breaks. Use it to show your working if anyone asks how a disclosure was arrived at.
Languages, privacy and uninstalling
↑ Back to topBadge text follows each visitor’s language automatically. Included: English, Polish, German, French, Spanish, Italian and Dutch. There is nothing to configure.
Images are never uploaded, copied or sent anywhere — everything runs on your own server, and the contrast analysis reads the image file locally and caches its result. No customer data is read or stored, and no order data is touched, which is why the extension is compatible with High-Performance Order Storage.
Uninstalling removes the extension’s settings. Your disclosures and audit records are kept, so reinstalling restores your history rather than starting over.
Troubleshooting
↑ Back to topA badge is not showing. Check the image’s label is not No AI, which shows nothing by design. If the image is displayed by a page builder or a theme feature that outputs only a bare image URL, the badge may not attach — contact support with the page and we will look at it.
The badge is hard to read on some images. Setting custom colors in Label Studio switches off automatic contrast. Either clear the custom colors to get adaptive contrast back, or adjust them until the preview reports that contrast passes WCAG AA.
Variation images are not listed. Save the product once. Variation images added during the current editing session appear in the list after a save.
A CSV import did not apply disclosures. Confirm the AI disclosure column was mapped on the import mapping screen, and that its values line up positionally with the Images column for that row.
