Welcome to the documentation for the Paytrail for WooCommerce extension. This guide provides all the information you need to accept payments on your WooCommerce site using Paytrail.

Paytrail for WooCommerce extension is designed to seamlessly integrate the Paytrail payment service with your WooCommerce store. The extension supports the following features:

  • Secure payment processing: PCI DSS Level I and GDPR compliant payment processing.
  • Flexible payment options: Online banks, cards, mobile, Buy now, Pay later and PayPal. Detailed payment method information can be found on our website.
  • Support for One-Click and Recurring Payments: One-click payments are available for logged-in customers. Recurring payments are supported through the WooCommerce subscriptions extension.
  • Testing environment: Sandbox test credentials for testing Paytrail payment service.

Refunds

  • Payment refunds: Partial and full refunds from your WooCommerce store. Refunds are processed by Paytrail and paid to the customer.

Ensure your site is using the following:

  • WordPress 4.9 or higher
  • WooCommerce version: 3.5 or higher
  • PHP 7.3 or higher
  • An SSL certificate

1. Create Paytrail account

To accept payments via Paytrail, you need to sign up for Paytrail account. If you already have an Paytrail account or you just want to test the service, continue to the next step.

2. Install and activate Paytrail for WooCommerce extension

  1. Download the .zip file from your WooCommerce account.
  2. Go toWordPress Admin > Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin. Choose File for the file you have downloaded.
  3. Install Now and Activate Plugin.

3. Connect your store to Paytrail

To create payments with Paytrail, you need a Merchant ID and Secret Key. These credentials can be found in the Paytrail merchant panel.

  1. Log in to your Paytrail Merchant panel
  2. Navigate to Merchant Account page
  3. Copy Merchant ID and Secret key
  4. Navigate to your sites WooCommerce dashboard
  5. Open Settings > Payments > Paytrail for WooCommerce > Manage
  6. Next, you will see an informational modal with options to either register for an account, enter production credentials, or test the extension using test credentials.
    • Register Now: Select this option if you don’t already have a Paytrail account. You will be prompted to complete a registration form and redirected to the Paytrail onboarding process.
    • Add Credentials: Select this option if you have a Paytrail account. Enter your Merchant ID and Secret Key into their respective fields.
    • Test Mode: Select this option if you want to test the Paytrail service using test credentials.

7. Click Save changes

Does this extension require additional setup for enabling different payment methods?

All payment methods provided by Paytrail, except Apple Pay, work without additional modifications. Additional details can be found in the extension configuration.

  • Finnish bank payments
  • Card payments: Visa, Mastercard and Amex. Tokenized and recurring payments for logged in customers
  • Mobile payments: MobilePay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Siirto
  • Invoice payment methods: Walley, OP Lasku, OP Tililuotto

How can I manage available payment methods?

To change the available payment methods, you need to log in to the Paytrail Merchant panel.

Paytrail payment methods are not displayed at checkout.

  • Ensure that Paytrail for WooCommerce is active and enabled in the WooCommerce > Settings > Payments.
  • Ensure that the entered merchant credentials are correct. You can copy these credentials from the Paytrail Merchant panel.

The payment methods displayed at checkout do not match those activated in my Paytrail account

Ensure that you are not using test mode. When test mode is enabled, the extension uses Paytrail test credentials.

Which currencies do you support?

At the moment, the only supported currency is Euro (€).

Troubleshooting issues

This extension includes logging to help troubleshoot issues. To enable logging, go to the extension settings and check Enable logging. Once activated, the log file will be saved to  wp-content/uploads/wc-logs
